My dd11 decided to buy the TS3 ds game after seeing all the commercials and watching some online trailers. The big draw for this game is the "Toy Box" mode which is in all the ads. So we went today to Target and she spent the rest of her birthday money on the game. After two hours of playing it she realizes she can't find the toy box mode. I just researched it and it looks like the DS version doesn't have toy box mode!!! This is the main reason she wanted the game!If we'd known there was a difference she wouldn't have bought the ds version--we have a wii at home too. I know Target won't take back opened games. Is there anything I can do? Has anyone ever sold a newly released game to Gamestop? How much of the $30 could she recoup?

I am just sick over this for her. She had been saving that money for 6 months, waiting for something really exciting. I am not happy that all the commercials play up this toy box mode and say available in wii, ps3, and ds at the end without specifying that the ds version is different!

You can try to sell it used on amazon. Just create a seller's account. You could probably get $20-$25 (minus commission) back for it.

Don't sell it to gamestop. Even with a special promotion that was going on last week I only got $8 for it. I was very surprised.

We were pretty disappointed with the Wii version too. I haven't had a chance to spend more than 15 minutes here and there with it, but so far, I'm not liking it. I may resell it, too. I was disappointed too that it is only a 2 player game. (I knew it before I bought it.)

I like the original Toy Story Wii game because we could play as a family, or just 15 minutes at a time without feeling interrupted when stopping.

I'll spend some more time with it, but I'm not going to keep it if no one plays it.

We have the Wii version, too. So far, I can't play it for more than fifteen minutes without getting motion sickness!

Our favorite was the TS2 game for the N64. We spent countless hours working on that (even though it was only one player, we shared) and miss it!

You can trade it in at Amazon for $15.50. It's super easy I do it all the time, you just follow instructions and print label and ship. As far as DDs money I would just give her back the entire amount she spent and suck up the loss out of my pocket. She thought she was buying a diff game just like you, I know there could be a lesson here for her to research what she was buying but not everything has to be a lesson.

Here is the link for the Amazon Trade-in Store

My 10 yr old son bought it last week for the same reason and was also not very happy to see that toybox mode wasnt part of the DS version.

It least he was able to get it at Fry's for $19, so he got it cheaper than it was at most stores.

This always make me angry , movie tyin games that target kids, they are among the worst games ever made and if the parents aren't gamers they are sucked into buying this crap for thier poor kids. The game maker prey on these families and make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ of it every time. Always check reviews online before you purchase new games, often new games are too hard for younger kids or just no good, but have that E rating so parents buy them unaware. Consider it a lesson learned :teacher: and don't belive everything in tv adds. :happytv:

Thanks for the warning. DD is getting a DS for her birthday coming up. I'll save my money and by something else!

My DS12 bought this game for DS last week. He knew the toy box mode was only for PS3 from watching the commercials. We have a PS3 but he didn't want to spend that much money, so bought the DS version. He said it's fun but quick - he finished the whole game within about a day.

Why don't you call the game company directly and explain the situation? Offer to send them the game directly and see if they will exchange it for the right version? Can't hurt to ask. Explain how they need to do a better job of labeling their games as you were expecting something else.

No offense, but it says it in the ads that toy box mode is not on the ds version... calling the game company won't do anything.

OP you should try selling on ebay, you will make very close to what your dd paid :)

Wow. Absolutely do not agree with doing this.

In principal I can understand why you don't agree, but in reality, Target will send it back to the manufacturer who is ultimately responsible for not being clear in that there are different (non-equivalent) versions. Target will not take the "hit", the manufacturer will.

To the OP defense, I just went to see TS3 tonight and as part of the preview, they had an ad for this game and they really did play up the "toy box mode". Now if the manufacturer did put in a disclaimer that the "toy box mode" was only for PS then shame on the the OP for not doing their research, but also shame on the manufacturer for being so misleading.

Or, better yet, take it back to target and tell them it's defective. They'll probably give you another copy, then sell it as new on Amazon.

And people wonder why so many stores have made returning stuff so hard. It is because of people who do things like this.

I totally agree! Nothing like having Diser's suggest doing something that's DISHONEST. It doesn't matter if the responsibility falls upon the manufacturer. It's still dishonesty no matter what way you spin it to try to justify it!

Other posters have given some great ideas, so hopefully THOSE are the ones that the OP will take to heart!

Here's the thing, Target can't give money back on an unopened CD, movie, game. It's copywright issue, so it isn't just Target that follows this rule.

But at Target, if you say the game is defective, they will happily let you exchange it for a new game... but the same title :thumbsup2. Of course before you leave the service desk, the employee will have to open the game. You returned an open game? You go home with an open game. At least the new one shouldn't be defective :goodvibes

Fair for the honest folks who really do get a defective game... keeps the dishonest folks out of trouble...
