DD just turned 8 and is in 2nd grade. Up until about a month or ago she just played with everyone at school - not really tight with anyone. Then we recently found out a girl in her class lives just around the corner, so they have been having play dates. Now "Susie" is all dd cares about and all she talks about. Tonight we were talking about her Valentines party at school. She is supposed to give one to everyone in the class. She only wants to give one to Susie. I told her no, you are supposed to give one to everyone. She says, well Susie is my bff. I said that's fine, but you are still supposed to give one to everyone, you're not supposed to leave anybody out. I don't think she really gets it.
I am worried about her becoming obsessed with this girl. Really, everything is Susie, Susie, Susie. I had to remind her, you do have other friends and you need to not forget about them.
Susie is in her class and in her afterschool care til 5:00 so they are together basically all day. Then they play together on the weekends.
Is this normal behavior for an 8 year old? Should I cut down on them playing together so much? DD doesn't seem to care about any of her other friends. It concerns me a lot. Any advice?
