DCL vs Royal Caribbean

For those of you with children, you may want to check out the sleeping arrangements in the cabin you are looking at. If you are in a non-premium veranda stateroom, you may be surprised. The ships we have check out with RCCL have the kids sleeping in bunks above the parents beds. Just know what you are getting before you book.

My wife and I sailed on the Voyager, with my parents, shortly after her maiden voyage. 15 months ago our family(parents and children) did the land/sea on the Wonder. While I thoroghly enjoyed DCL, I would not hesitate to cruise on the Voyager over DCL. For what you pay for an inside DCL cabin, you could be enjoying a veranda cabin on RCCL. Voyager was bigger with more to do for the kids and adults. The adults only pool was devoid of minors as apposed to DCL. Food was similar. I enjoyed the ports more with RCCL with the exception of CC. Both Lines tend to leave the ports at the same time. I wish we could have spent more time.

RCCL can't touch that Disney feeling though.

We are looking into an Alaskan cruise, and I think the ship DH is leaning towards a RCCL radiance class. Does anyone know what those are like?

Sure wish DCL went to Alaska. Oh well.

:( :( :( :( :(

PiperG,

I was on the Radiance last summer in Alaska. My husband and I just watched the travel channel tonight, they did a one hour on the Radiance cruising alaska. It brought back wonderful memories!!! I beleive they are repeating it again tomorrow afternoon, if you get the travel channel check their website for times.

I would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding the ship, and Alaska. Feel free to PM me anytime. The ship is gorgeous, glass everywhere, with a beautiful solarium, dining room, etc. As far as beauty goes, I think Radiance is the most beautiful ship I have been on, however, I do prefer to sail the Voyager class ships in the Caribbean, because of the royal promenade.

My husband and I were just discussing when we will be able to take our next Alaskan cruise, unfortunately it will probably be another 4 or 5 years. I would go again on the Radiance in a heartbeat!

Alaska is amazing! I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I went ahead & priced the 7 day western on Navigator of the Seas on RCCL during the time I have a DCL Eastern booked (family of 5, 2 connecting inside rooms) through DU as many of the Dis-ers have suggested.

It is a whopping thousand dollars (actually $968) cheaper on RCCL(even at this late date) AND you get an additional port of call (which usually bumps up the cruise cost due to port charges).

DH & I talked about it and looks like we'll stay w/DCL ONLY because we have planned it for 6 months & family is all "geared up" to go on this PARTICULAR ship w/the Mick-ster. But, I am already looking at booking 2004 cruise and will definately book the RCCL cruise (it also alternates east/west itineraries) because how can I justify a thousand more for DCL? Nothing I have read makes me think it is worth that much more!!

My recommendation to others who have not booked yet---seriously look at price quotes & compare the two. The money you save w/RCCL is probably enough to cover on-board costs (tipping, excursions, drinks, possibly spa treatment, etc). And you may get a higher-level stateroom. And you may get a better, or at the very least an equivalent, intinerary.
:D
