does anyone know of the travel options once we dock in st marten for someone who has a child. Do I have to bring a car seat off the ship with me? or are their busses that allow kids.........

Sounds like if you are looking at exploring you might consider a private car hire service. This way you can work with them directly to get you where you need to go with the peace of mind of a car seat. Many islands use wither buses, vans, or open air trucks to transport people, and as such they aren't classified as a passenger vehicle in the sense of needing restraint systems.
