DCL ruined my life!

Imahistorygeek- be forewarned, our first Disney cruise was a 7 night in Europe. Now we have a 7 night on the fantasy booked (hello Friends of DCL!) and eyes on a 12 night European cruise. We apparently go straight for the hard stuff.

In the last week I have told my kids, "no we're not going out to dinner; we're saving up for our next cruise." Even the kids get it.

It's a sweet first world problem to have!

It gets very bad when its, "no we're not having dinner; we're saving up for our next cruise."

Our "once in a lifetime cruise" somehow became 6 cruises with #7 & 8 booked for 2015 & 2016. My husband does not even like Disney that much, but LOVES the Disney cruises. We are definitely hooked! Glad to hear you had such a wonderful time on the ship.

Every year we take a Disney vacation we say, "This is a once in a lifetime vacation....."

We are addicted as well. We did our first cruise ever with DCL in May 2014 on the Fantasy and luvveeeddddd it. We met a great family from Pennsylvannia who we keep in contact with and we now are planning another cruise together in early 2017 - we are just waiting for the dates to be released for a Eastern Carribean cruise on the Fantasy. My DDs who are 9 and 3 cant wait. We sailed with Carnival Cruises in June of this year and it just wasnt the same. We are from Melbourne Australia and we thought the trip again from Melbourne to Orlando via LA (22hrs) would be just too much for our DDs to do again but have decided it is soooo worth it. DCL here we come again in early 2017 and also doing 1 week at WDW before our cruise.

I just got off my first cruise (Fantasy Western) yesterday. I think it was seriously my favorite vacation ever. I enjoyed the planning process a lot and loved that I didn't have to drive anywhere or figure out where we were going to eat when! So much less stressful than planning for the parks ( and we have been there yearly so I am not new at that). We booked a placeholder for a Fantasy Eastern in 2017 and are already looking at Princess for Alaska next summer. Now I just want to cruise!

one other thing the fascination with DCL produces- constant reading and checking of the DISBoards site! our next cruise is over 275 days away and here i am reading the DISboards site!!!!
234 days out and I check this site minimum 3-4 times daily often more.

Same here. I was obsessed with Disney and went 6 times within 4 years.

We were staying at Coronado Springs for the 2nd time (we are resort hoppers and like to do split stays and try a new hotel every night or so), our stay was less than stellar and, bored to death, we started reading a DCL booklet...

6 months later, we were on the Dream (3 nights). We re-booked on board. We had a WDW 3 nights stay after the cruise. I wished I had booked a 2nd cruise instead (or a longer cruise)

Still 268 days to go...

I know the feeling. I am addicted to cruising in general. I have been on many cruises- 7 actually. 5 Carnival, 1 celebrity and 1 Disney. My first cruise was in Dec 2004, then Feb. 2009. Then again in April 2012, April 2013, March 2014, October 2014, May 2015. We have only been back from our fantasy cruise a little over 1 month. And I am still planning the next one. I don't know if we will be able to afford a DCL one or not for a while. Definitely not 2016, maybe 2017. But I did put down a deposit. I am looking at just about any line, including Royal, NCL, Celebrity and Carnival. I actually was planning on this cruise being the Oasis with just DH and I, but then it turned into a family trip to WDW in July. Which changed to being a trip in May (over our 10 year anniversary), which became a cruise. So obviously my planning changes as I go along. So who knows what I will do next year. But I am still paying this trip off so It will be a while before its Disney again.

...

It's amazing because we went from zero cruises and "it's just a boat on the water" to 3 cruises in a short time frame. My next hurdle is trying to convince him that we need to sail longer than three days. It's going to happen because he's already said he'd like to do 4-day cruise.

DCL is amazing and I'm so glad we decided to take that first trip.

Long story short - "DCL ruined my life!"

You know there's that saying: Once you do a DCL 14 night cruise, there's no going back!!

I was a little worried in 2005 when we were planing our 14 Panama Canal cruise from Disneyland to WDW (sic). 10 sea days ... are you CRAY CRAY :hyper2: :scared: Crazy  Well as it turned out 14 nights was just not enough. But we've mostly had to settle for 7 nighters since then. You will be amazed at the difference between 3 and 4 nights. Much "calmer" with the longer cruises.

The way I look at it on a 3 night cruise I get about 40 hours of quality awake time (noon-midnight, 8a-midnight, 8a-midnight, less about 4 hours for packing: 12+16+16-4 = 40) for a 4 night add another 16 hours and that's about a 40% increase in quality *** (Mickey Vacation Time) by adding only 1 more night.

Another definition of OCD: Obsessive Cruise with Disney, or as per my picture.. Obsessive Castle Disorder.
