OK, ruined is harsh, maybe consumed is a better word. Ever since we booked our first cruise 6 months ago, all I Could think about was that cruise; researching, planning & dreaming about it. Now that we have taken that one, ever since we stepped off the Dream, all I can think about was how great it was, and planning and dreaming about our next one we booked for April. Oh, and it's not just DCL, also been looking at other lines for a cheap weekend cruise to hold us over till April. Cruising should come with a warning label "Cruising can be addictive, book your first cruise at your own risk", lol. We are cruisers for life now, and of course, DCL will always been our main line.

  1. Addiction is a state characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences. It can be thought of as a disease or biological process leading to such behaviors.
  2. DCL Addiction is a state formed by characters and compulsive engagement in Entertainment, food, and drink stimuli, despite adverse consequences to your financial position It can be thought of as a disease or biological process leading to such behaviors as rebooking a number of cruises onboard. Some say... its something in the free soda....

Yes it is an addiction. I have gone back and forth between a European cruise or land trip to Europe next year. I can do a land trip for less money, but it's been so long since we took a vacation that didn't involve some time on a ship. I feel like something is missing if I don't include a cruise.

Welcome to the club!!

You can see from my signature line, I am NOT addicted. I am not addicted. I am not addicted.

Is there a friends of DCL on the cruise?

Our "once in a lifetime cruise" somehow became 6 cruises with #7 & 8 booked for 2015 & 2016. My husband does not even like Disney that much, but LOVES the Disney cruises. We are definitely hooked! Glad to hear you had such a wonderful time on the ship.

Being on the water is lovely.

DCL will always been our main line

At least give other lines a chance before making that your mantra. You might be surprised!

Hi,

Great Job on these definitions! They made me smile and I totally agree with them!

Hi,

Disney Cruise Line cruising, booking, and planing always makes me happy. My family is so obsessed with DCL that when it was time to pick my 18th Birthday/Graduation present, I picked a DCL instead of WDW or Paris, France! I can think of my Obsession with DCL as one of my many happy places associated with Disney. If you are trying to fight the urge not to get addicted or obsessed to DCL, just think : Keep calm and try not to book another cruise on DCL (But I know we all will anywhere, because they are are like a WONDERful, MAGICal, FANTASY-like, DREAM that we all do not want to wake up from).:cloud9::tinker: Long live DCL!

A couple of years ago I approached my DH with the idea of a Disney cruise. He loves Disney but said no way. It's just a boat on water. What's the fun in that. He couldn't understand the draw of cruising. I really didn't have an argument because I had also never been on a cruise. In Feb 2014 I talked him into a cruise for our 16th anniversary. I said we could go to the parks for a couple of days and then hit the cruise. I think he agreed because he has to live with me. Honestly, I would have been ok if we didn't take the cruise, but I really wanted to experience a Disney cruise. We didn't even consider any other cruise lines.

In Feb 2014, I started looking into it and contacted a travel agent. She helped me set everything up. I read everything I could about going on a cruise. Everything was fun and new because we had no idea what to expect. There are tons of things to do off and on the boat, but I was really afraid we (meaning DH) would be bored. Fast forward to Sept 2014. We booked our 3-day Bahamian on the Dream for mid-September. We left for WDW a few days earlier and the morning of the cruise, we ate at Kona Cafe. My DH was nervous, but not sure why. Maybe because it was something new.

We drive to Port Canaveral and drive past the Dream, making our way to the parking deck. My DH immediately wants me to start taking pictures. He's getting excited. The Dream is amazing and so beautiful. We were in awe. You think you know how big a cruise ship is until you actually see it in person and then you realize you had no idea. That level of excitement from the beginning lasted our whole trip. He loved it. I loved it.

Leaving port was a sad experience. I wanted to get back on the boat so bad! DH couldn't really believe how wonderful it really was. We used to rent points from someone who told us that once we experience a Disney cruise, we may like it better than WDW. I'm not sure about that...yet, but I can see his point.

I carefully broached the topic of a future cruise. DH said in maybe a couple of years. He still didn't want to go past 3 days. I was good with that.

Well, new itineraries came out for 2016 after the new year. I said what about a cruise in April 2016. He agreed! We booked and our DD will be with us for her first cruise. I never thought DH would agreed so quickly to another cruise.

Last month, I received an email from DCL regarding insurance for a September 2015 cruise. I panicked because I hadn't reserved anything. Lo and behold, my husband had booked another cruise as an anniversary surprise! We were sad it was spoiled, but happy that we were going on a cruise. I checked in last night!

It's amazing because we went from zero cruises and "it's just a boat on the water" to 3 cruises in a short time frame. My next hurdle is trying to convince him that we need to sail longer than three days. It's going to happen because he's already said he'd like to do 4-day cruise.

DCL is amazing and I'm so glad we decided to take that first trip.

Long story short - "DCL ruined my life!"

I know this feeling well. On May 20th, I booked our first ever cruise...for December 2016!!! Do you know how long that is?? It was still over 18 months away!! I don't think a day has gone by when I haven't been obsessed with finding out everything I can. Figuring out logistics, looking forward to our cabin, changing our cabin, planning the time to tell our son, planning a time to tell the in-laws that we'll be gone the week before Christmas, trying to determine what the weather may be that week, worrying about what to wear on formal nights when I'm not a formal kind of person...dressy, yes, formal no...excited about how much fun my son will have in the Oceaneer club, looking forward to some adult time...oh and the list goes on and on and on!! Fish extenders? Don't even get me started...Pinterest is an necessary evil in the world of FEs!!

I'm addicted and we haven't even cruised yet! I've enjoyed the planning and dreaming stage so much for the last 8 months. And the shopping! I keep telling my husband that our next cruise will really be a necessity because we've bought so many special things for this trip that it would be a waste to not use them again and again. He keeps ignoring me.

Our story is similar. I tried for years to get DH on a cruise. It took me surviving breast cancer to get him on a cruise He would have given me anything in the world at that point, so it was my big opportunity February 2013. Here we are summer 2015, after 3 cruises and countless Mickey bars , we are about to head out on our 4th cruise, this time Alaska!

I agree completely. We just got back from a week in Hawaii - which was great, but the whole time I just kept thinking, "I really wish we were on the Fantasy again.........." Enjoy your next cruise and be sure to book a week on the Fantasy, it will absolutely ruin you for life!!!!

We started in 2010 and have been heavily addicted ever since. 5 Disney cruises, 5 Carnival cruises, 2 Celebrity cruises and 2 Royal Caribbean cruises (with 1 Celebrity cruise, 1 Disney cruise, and 2 Carnival cruises booked between now and January 2016).

From October 2010 to October 2015 (5 years) we'll have completed 15 cruises. I addicted to cruising and very happy about it.
