Does anyone know what DCL's policy is on hurricanes? We seem to have quite a busy hurricane season this year and with our cruise a month away, I am curious on what the policy is on cancelling a cruise and refunding. Any information will be greatly appriciated!

Never canceled a cruise, changed ports of call-If you are on a Eastern for example it might become a Western , or diverted to other home ports -Port Lauderdale has been used a lot even turned up in Galveston,Texas! and the cruise extended to 10 days!

People with flight issues orgainsed by DCL have been looked after either joined cruise later or offered a replacement.

Trip insurance to include this cover is advisable.

Cruises have been delayed and on the one in 2004 that resulted in the 7 day becoming a 4 day and being combined with the Wonder cruise on one ship things were announced at the last minute. Be sure to give your cell number to DCL so that they can contact you about such changes. People were calling before flying out knowing that the storm was coming and DCL was telling them that the cruise was going on as scheduled. It ended up being delayed 3 days and the port was changed to Fort Lauderdale. DCL provided transportation to everyone to Ft. L and also helped to arrange for lodging at WDW for those who got to FL and did not have anything booked for the first days of the cruise.

DCL policy on hurricanes ?
The safty of the ship, crew and passengers is the policy of DCL regarding hurricanes. The ships go to where the hurricanes are NOT. The master of the ship (captain) has final say of when and where the ship goes (and he / they don't like rough weather:) )

we were on the cruise that was shortened in 04. those that went were refunded 50%, those that cancelled were refunded 100%. with or without insurance. we were also given 25% off vouchers for a cruise the next year.

we were not charged for dcl transportation to/from the cruise, and our only destination was cozumel.

we have been one other time in 2000, when we diverted to cozumel, then cc for two days and finally freeport for part of a day. this was before dcl began doing western carib cruises, so there was a lot of scrambling by the folks in celebration.

Unless you have "cancel for any reason" trip insurance - you can't cancel and get your money back because you're worried about hurricanes. Hopefully you're flying to FL at least a day before your cruise departs.
