Hi, I haven't been on the DIS Boards for awhile so have a lot of catching up to do, because I WAS CHOSEN TO HOST A PARTY, TOO! I'm in the Pensacola area of northwest Florida, and there are 5 parties in PCola, a couple parties in Milton (an hour east of us) and a couple in Mobile (an hour west), so we have the area covered. Anybody need an invitation?
Now the big news - they were filming the new promotional video for
Disney Cruise Line while we were on
Castaway Cay on December 8th, and I got to be in it! We were up in the observation tower and the film crew was there and they asked if I wanted to be in the video, so of course I said YES!!

I got to dance with Rick the "star" of the video, and I also had to look through the telescope and Rick popped up in front of me and I had to act surprised. So, look for me on the video. I may end up on the cutting room floor, but DH videotaped and took pictures. AND--they are sending the new video to all the party hosts so we can show it at our parties!!!

Someone else I know was videotaped at the hot tub near the adult pool on the Wonder. We saw Rick later onboard the ship and also at Epcot, and he stopped to say hi and give me a hug. What fun!!
Here are some party ideas:
* At-Sea Auction (just like on the ships).
Do this after you play any games.
Use Monopoly play money and put various bills in small envelopes and tuck in the flaps (so the envelopes can be reused). I use $1, $5 and $10 bills. If you have games at the party, let the winner of each game pick 2 envelopes but tell them not to open them. After all the games are finished, let nonwinners pick one envelope each - that way everyone has money to start with. Let them take their money out of the envelope to see how much they have. Now start auctioning off your prizes to the highest bidder, but keep the prizes in a bag so they don't know what they are bidding on. You can have nice prizes and some silly prizes and it's great fun since they are not bidding with their own money. Open each auction with a low bid such as $2.00 and the bids will come fast and furious. Highest bidder wins the prize. The game winners will have more money to start so they'll have a better chance of winning a bid.
*
DCL Word Jumble. Give everyone a list of words with the letters scrambled. All words are themed around DCL. So far I've used the ships' names, restaurant names, lounges, kids' areas, shore excursions, etc. Give them a time limit (3-5 minutes) and see who can unscramble the most words.
If you do this after you've thoroughly discussed the
Disney Cruise Line, most of the words will be familiar if people are paying attention. Winner gets to draw an envelope with play money.
* Memory Game. Prepare a tray with about 15-20 items on it, relating to Disney or the DCL if you can find enough items. Each person gets a paper and pencil. Hold the tray up so everyone can see it for about 30 seconds then remove the tray from sight. See who can name the most objects they saw in 3-5 minutes.
* Old Coin Auction. Need a small, inexpensive gift (a bottle of rum, box of chocolates, whatever). Host pretends to be an auctioneer and shows the prize saying "This beautiful _________ is up for bid. All you need is a date. Pull out your coins and check the dates. I'm looking for a 2000 coin or lower. Do I have a 2000?" If someone has a coin lower then 2000, for instance a 1996 quarter, you would say "I've got a 96, do I have a 95?" Keep bidding until the lowest date has been bid. Player with lowest coin date wins the auction. (You can also use bills as well as coins)
* Another idea for door prizes is to save small empty water bottles. Remove labels and plastic lids. Buy small corks at a wine shop and trim them to fit the bottles. Write out the name of the door prize on a small sheet of paper and roll it up tight with a string or rubber band, and put it in the bottle. Put all the corked bottles in a tub of water and let them float around. Door prize winners can choose a bottle and remove the paper to find out what they won (like a message in a bottle). Have a pair of needle nose pliers handy to pull out the paper if it won't slide out.
You can pass out a number to each guest as they enter the party, and have duplicate numbers in a hat to draw out winning numbers for the door prizes.
Sorry this is so long, maybe I should have split it into two posts. But if anyone else has any ideas, please post 'em. Thanks!
