DCL not going forward with Conversion of Magic 4A cabins to Concierge

I wonder if this is a budget thing or if they saw the lukewarm reaction to remodel.

Works for me. It will keep the lounge from getting more crowded.

I take it this will make many cruisers happy that they have decided to retreat from this plan? With Disney wanting to do this it would have really jacked up the price on those 4A cabins. Was there any possible positives to this plan other than padding Disney's wallet more?

I hate to say it, but part of it could be they anticipate an extended closure and don't want to go through the cost of the renovation just to have the rooms sit empty for months and months.

I'm guessing budget. All the cruise lines are bleeding money right now while they can't sail.
I think that's the major part of it. Besides the cost of doing the renovation, they are probably thinking that not as many people will be booking Concierge, with the higher cost once/if cruising begins again. Plus, why create new, costly rooms that may not be used (if distancing will be required)?

Not to mention the nonrefundable concierge deposit, which is an added deterrent.

I've never sailed Concierge so I'm not familiar with the Cat V staterooms... is the renovation that different between the 4A and V? I thought (probably mistakenly) that the difference was in the extras, and not in the cabins themselves? My impression was that they give you access to the extras and magically your 4A is a V, though you wouldn't be able to tell the difference by looking at it. That being the case (as I may have wrongfully assumed), it wouldn't cost much to "upgrade" them to Cat V.

The Cat V that we stayed in on the Wonder did not have the pull-out sofa bed that I have seen in pictures of the Cat V on the Dream class. Ours had a Murphy bed near the verandah door, a sofa that lies flat for sleeping and a pull down bunk over the sofa (all twin size-ish) in addition to the queen bed. Which is the same configuration as the 4A. The Magic Class is a wee bit more narrow so a pull-out sofa bed would not fit, I expect. The decoration was like other concierge rooms, with burled wood accents and the same carpet, in addition to the baths having a bit of an upgrade. There were also bathrobes in the closet and they will stock your fridge with your choice of soft drinks prior to boarding and will keep it stocked, I believe.

Our deterrent. Opening day I reserved a concierge room for NY/Bermuda. I just could not get past the non-refundable deposit given what is going on. I love concierge and in normal times, I would have booked the room at that price. Right now? Just not worth it to us.

I think the cost would to replace carpet and add some new woodwork would be minimal in the scheme of things. I don't think it would take more than a few sailings for DCL recoup the costs with the way Concierge prices have been increasing. Maybe it's a supply issue?

DCL doesn't know when the next few sailings will happen, or how full they'll be.

Could DCL be planning to scrap the Magic once the Wish is in the water so they don't want to put any extra money in to it?
