You may want to take a look at the Palo and Magic entertainment updates found here: DCL News

"PALO DRESS CODE

During dinner, gentlemen will be required to wear a dress shirt. Gentlemen wearing polo shirts, t-shirts, Tommy Bahama style shirts, etc will not be allowed admittance. Jackets and/or ties are still recommended but not required. Notices will be in the Personal Navigator, on the Palo reservation card and a sign outside the elevators on deck 10 will contain this dress advisory. The Resort Casual dress code for both the brunch and high tea remains unchanged."

VERY Interesting.....

Thanks. Good eye.

The new show-has it already started? If not, when? We cruise 11/27 and would love to see a new show.

Izzinmac.......I'm sailing this Saturday, I'll post in my "Live from the Thanksgiving Magic"......hope you aren't wanting any miller lite on your sailing......the ship WILL be dry! LOL

I hope they keep the new show on the magic going until aug of next year i would really like to see it.

(donning my flame-proof dress shirt and tie) :firefight

Have to admit, I am not overly disappointed to see this change. Maybe DCL will begin enforcing the dinner dress code in all of the restaurants.

I hear you, Tigger King!

Flame away- but it just adds to the ambience so much to have people dressed nicely. :D

I am VERY happy to see that 60's Night will now be a family event! DH and I saw this show a couple of months ago (LOVED it) and were sorry that our teen sons were not able to see it. Our older DS16 is a big Beatles' fan. He'll be 18 when we cruise next, and now DS13 (15 at that time) will be able to see this show too. WAY TO GO, DCL!!!! ::yes::

Resort casual (for males) would typically be khakis (dockers) and polo type shirts (collared). Not sure exactly what it would mean for the ladies.

There was no start date for the new show on the Magic. Usually when it's announced, it's either in place or starting very soon.

My former employer, Ford Motor Company, considered resort casual to be khaki (Dockers) type of pants and any collared shirt (including golf or polo type shirts) pants for men and capri, khaki, or linen pants or any type of skirt that wasn't a mini skirt and non t-shirt type tops for women.

That being said, I would wear a nicely coordinating colored tee shirt with a pair of capri pants with a sweater around my shoulders in case it gets cool and consider myself dressed fine for "resort casual."

I think the main thing- (wait I need to zip up my non-flammable pair of shorts)- is no shorts or t-shirts with sayings, etc. anywhere at dinner.

I saw an adult couple dressed exactly that way last week at Animator's. My BF made a point of showing me because he feels if you pay so much money, you should be able to dress how you want to. They looked really out of place.

I will say that-- if you pay so much money you should be able to dress the way you want-- is exactly how my father and my husband's best friend feel as well. So I have been many places with each of them dressed "uniquely" from the rest of the people assembled.

I guess I kind of agree too, to a point. But I myself feel much better dressed nicely and think it just adds to the overall ambience if others do too.

I think many agree, which is why Disney has guidelines in the first place.

To each their own, I guess.

So is this new show replacing the opening night variety show?

I wonder if the variety acts will be done away with. Can't wait to hear. I personally would like to see WWTBAM moved to studio sea with small prizes and something else in its place.

Family 60s night is a great idea!!

I think no matter what you pay if there are rules you should respect them. There are other dinner options if you dislike dressing up.

(Boy, I am really going to get attacked for this one) I TOTALLY disagree with you BF's statement (and others I have seen on here before). If you choose to go on a trip where you are confined to a specific area with other vacationers (i.e. a ship), or if you go to a restaurant, and there are certain expecations as far as dress code, you should plan on adhering to those guidelines. I have seen multiple people say "I won't ever see these people again, so my actions don't matter." Your actions affect those around you in this situation, whether you think they do or not.

I don't believe in this "I am going to do what I darn well please, and forget about the rest of you." If you don't want to dress to the standards of the restaurant, find somewhere else on the ship to eat. If you don't want to dress or act to the standards of certain events, don't go. But, don't take such a selfish attitude as to say you are going to do what you darn well please, and forget about everybody else. That is part of the problem in our society (U.S.) today.

(stepping down off soapbox, and donning fire retardant underwear).

I'll get your back on this one. I totally agree. It ruined our vacation on our last cruise when people felt they could act and dress as they pleased - and yes, I mean to use as strong of a word as ruined because this attitude was pervasive throughout the cruise - right down to holding the door in the elevators for you to get on.

There are few cruising institutions left and even the dress code for dinners has been relaxed, but for Pete's sake, dress apropriately when going to dinner. It drives me absolutely up a wall when people show up in shorts or jeans.

I agree with both of you about the dress code. It's there for a reason and that's what I told BF. Said, "If you don't want to dress according to their rule, eat at Pluto's Doghouse." He dressed nice.
