How do I go about setting up the Navigator app for my kids' phones (age 9 & 12) so we can communicate on the ship? Do they have to create disney accounts?
Guests do not need to create Disney accounts to use the DCL app onboard the ship. They do need to download the app in advance. Then, when they can access Disney Cruise WiFi in the cruise terminal or onboard, they can sign into the app using their stateroom number, name, and birthdate. Below a certain age, they may need parental permission to activate the texting feature.
Since just using the ship wifi, you don't need an activated phone, correct? Thinking about bringing an old phone, to give to my granddaughter in case she decides to spend some time in kids club so we can text if she's done using the app.

Our kids do bring old phones, but do make sure they are not TOO old as then you may not be able to download the latest version of the app. It is very handy.
