Who is "we" comprised of?

:)kim

Well we will be in two staterooms. In the first stateroom is DH, DD11, and myself, in the Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, and DBIL and DS13 in the inside stateroom across the hall!

After toiling with where to fly into and where to stay, we have decided to fly into YVR and stay three night precruise at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and one post night at the Fairmont Waterfront (through Disney). We decided to also do the transfers also because I always tend to over pack. My overpacking and thus need to schlep the luggage always ends up in an argument between DH and myself. So, since we've been spoiled by DME, we have decided to limit the schlepping as much as possible.....to help save our marriage.

Now we just need to decide which excursions we want to do. I had it narrowed down, and saved them on the website, and poof....gone. So now we're starting over. We still have a ton of time. Since DBIL is not a castaway club member we've decided to wait to book until hisbooking window since ours would be nonrefundable and couldn't be canceled if he can't get in.

Welcome, your excursions can be cancellled up to 24 hours prior. So you would lose any thing booking some early!

I guess I did not realize that:confused3 That's good, the four of us will have the earlier (not as much as some I know!) booking advantage, and hopefully it won't be so bad getting1 person on the excursion vs 5!

Welcome newcomers!

I have been busy with all my plans for the EBTA. I got my excursions booked.

The Dis group has lots of activities planned. Along with FE, postcard exchange, recipe exchange and book/magazine swap. Plus a lot of on board activities.

I read on another thread that parking at Canada Place was $39.00 a night  Good thing we decided not to drive.

Trying to decide on clothes to pack for this trip. Do you think we will need a winter coat or just layering?

Christi

ETA: We have Facebook page for EBTA. Would anyone be interested in one for our cruise? Don't know how to set up but, someone could help.

I would just bring layers and a lined windproof/waterproof jacket. Maybe some silk thermals too since they weigh nothing. Those are my two cents...ha ha ha Hopefully the weather will be nice all week...keeping my fingers crossed!

Just booked 4 star through hotwire.com for 132.00 a night for three nights pre-Alaska! I want to go right now...I do I do!

Just booked this morning! If you are coming along, PM me with your information and I will add you to this first post . . .

What is the weather like?

Interior's climate runs hot and cold - steady precipitation keeps the region green.

Southeast Alaska is a land of rain forests, salmon streams and glaciers, all made possible by the wealth of precipitation driven in off the Gulf of Alaska.

The Inside Passage has the highest annual precipitation averages in the state as well as the highest average temperatures. For anglers, kayakers, hikers and cruise ship passengers, jackets and rain gear are almost always appropriate. Rubber boots are worn so frequently that they're known as "Alaska tennis shoes" and "Sitka slippers."

Rainy towns
Ketchikan averages 150 inches of precipitation a year, almost 3 times Juneau's total and 10 times what Anchorage gets. Yakutat, near enormous Malaspina Glacier, averages 145 inches of precipitation, including the meltwater from 193 inches of snow. Year to year, the wettest place in the state is Little Port Walter, which averages 220 inches.

Juneau gets more than 18 hours of sunlight at the summer solstice in June but less than 6.5 hours at the winter solstice. Ketchikan, 250 miles south of Juneau, gets less (17.5 hours) at the summer solstice but more (7 hours) in December.

I am on this cruise and want to me added to the list. Shaene (me) and my wife Shante. Just us two. We are in stateroom 5631

Is there a FE list for this cruise? I have been looking through and unable to find one.:yay:

I wouldn't recommend it - do later if possible. It's approximately a 30+ minute drive in good traffic to the airport. We will be dealing with commuter traffic as it's a weekday.

You have to check in, go thru security and if you are flying directly to the USA - go thru customs. It can be quite backed up. I think it took us at least an hour+ when I did it in July and that was with minimal wait at the customs area. I have missed a flight before - with the custom delay.
This is great information. I am finding out so much about flying out of Canada back home to NC. This forum has answered alot of the questions I have had that I couldn't find answers too

Hi,
Fish Extenders is a game that those on the Dis boards play while on the cruise. Next to the stateroom doors are "fish" that you can hang a fish extender on (a cloth type holder with pockets for everyone in your group that is playing) There are pictures of FE on this thread (also look under the sticky DCL facts under FE info, etc on the main page and there is a lot of info there too)

Usually you sign up with a group of other Disers and then during your cruise you give other Disers in your group a little gift. It can be one gift for the whole stateroom or 1 gift for each person in a stateroom. It is really up to you. I usually give one gift to the adults in a stateroom and then a gift to all the kids in the same stateroom. Other Disers then put small gifts in you FE pockets throughout the cruise. Usually you pass out gifts once during the cruise on any day that you like.

Some items you pass out can be boughten or homemade. Many people buy some things from Oriental Trading or the Dollar Store for little gifts. Some types of gifts I have received or have passed out to adults and kids are: items and food from your home state, home made DCL bag, photo frames, stuffed animals, candy and other treats, pencils, stickers, note books, customized DCL pens or pencils or other items customized for your specific cruise, Disney washclothes, other Disney items, coloring books, Disney CDs,hand sanitizer, "survival bags" with band aids, stain remover, etc and other odds and ends you may need for your cruise, pirate gear, pirte pillow case, tatoos. Ideas for gifts are really endless and totally up to you. You do not have to spend a lot of money on the gifts.

It ususlly is a lot of fun and my kids (as well as us adults):) really look forward to coming back to our stateroom to see what treasures might be in our FE.

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask away. I hope you will join us. There are about 8 families playing right now. Let me know if you are interested in playing.

Vicki

Just in case someone missed it, gonemousin’ has listed the excursion time for most of the Alaskan port adventures. The link is
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2666085

That's really helpful! Thanks for posting that. We just finished a 4-night on the Dream, so I am turning full vacation planning attention to this cruise, although I am a little overwhelmed by all the excursion options and not really sure how to choose!

If you don't get the tablesize you like you can always request a change. We had two extra people join us last year. They were a young couple and DCL sat them with two other young couples. Well all they wanted to talk about was religion and politics so they were very uncomfortable. So they moved and sat with us. So our table of 12 turned into a table of 14. It was a lot of fun!!!

Yes, and the young couple can't thank you enough for letting them join you!!! ;) :cheer2:

Getting excited for your Med trip???? I can't wait to see your pictures!!!

Talked to Patrick today he was a little shaken up after what happened in frankfurt. The poor boy who was driving the bus was from his squadon....
Patrick was just at the airport last Wednesday. Needless to say this mom said a few prayers today!!
