I just looked on Bell Canada and the rates from the USA back to B.C. using the Canada Direct 800 number and your prepaid Bell Canada card ($10 version) are $0.16 per minute.

The Disney Cruise Cellular Site is here and the official Cellular at Sea site is here. Disney doesn't show the price, but a friend of ours paid $40 for a quick call to his son while at sea on the per minute rate.

For AT&T the advance purchase service is $35 a month, for 15 minutes of talk time and 15 text messages. Overages are $2.50 a minute and $1 per text. Otherwise you have to pay the per minute international roaming rate.

Just booked my trip. Couldn't decide what to do for a holiday and a friend mentioned that Disney was now cruising out of Vancouver - so I couldn't resist. Stop to visit the family in Vancouver, then on to a cruise.

My first time cruising so I'm a bit nervous, but I'm hoping my boys (8 & 4) will love

Hi Vicki, Thanks for doing this.....this is our first Disney cruise and this seems so neat a cross between secret santa and halloween but with a very cool Mickey twist....count us in! We don't have a room number yet but as soon as we do I will let you know.....

That's great! Thanks for starting that thread, I know my kids would love to get to know some of there mates for our trip. We have a 4 day weekend and nice weather to boot so I am sure they will want to post. Still wondering if Pirate Night will still be "Pirate Night" or something else...hmmmm

So we are avid campers, so packing light for all types of weather and living in small spaces will be no issue for us.

But I have questions around things like dining and the shows.

We have second seating for dinner. I think my kids will be fine with the late time, but I'm curious - how long does dinner service tend to take? Getting the boys to sit for over an hour might be a challenge. Also how many other guests do you tend to sit with? I've read that many parents send their kids to the play areas but since I'm a single parent that would leave me sitting by myself which is okay if there are other friendly table guests.

Since we have second seating for dinner, would we watch shows before dinner?

Also, I assume room service food is all included? (besides tipping).

Approximately how much cash should one take on the trip for tipping, expenses not covered, etc? Is there a way to get more cash if needed?

I think I read cell phones are not permitted on the boat, so I assume they have phones for calling home but are they expensive?

Regarding tips - At the end of the week you will receive envelopes in your cabin, 1 each for server, assistant server, dining room head, and stateroom person. It will tell you a recommended tip amount. all you have to do is fill it out and the tips will be added to your room account. Of course you can use cash if you want but it's not necessary to have any on the ship. Hope this helps.

Depends on the store. Most places in downtown Vancouver and Tourist stops will take US Cash (but the exchange rate could vary - odds are most places are at par these days). Smaller stores may not take US Cash, but Interac or credit cards will work.
