DCL Europe Summer 2022 approaching - what are you doing?

Our cruise is actually out of Dover (fly into London) so we are still planning on going. Just trying to keep an eye on all covid related rules as we get closer to PIF.

We were originally booked on the 11 night Baltic. I switched to the 7 night Northern European out of London 1/3 the cost. I didn't feel like this was a good year to break the bank on a cruise. I may wait until 2023 and do the cruise I really want. There's just too much going on right now with restrictions and geopolitical stuff. I'm going to give it until June to decide anything. Everything may change by then for better or worse.... who knows. Thanks, DCL for extending the PIF date.

Booked on the 8 day Greek cruise in Jun. Not worried about Omicron at all (it's already peaked everywhere in the west and will be ancient history by then). Doubt another variant will flare up over the summer- this virus has a season and summer is not it. Still concerned about asymptomatic positives that could ruin trips.

Booked air using miles (always) - easy and free to cancel with backup trips booked also on miles. Hotels all refundable - big decision will be 60 days prior PIF. Biggest worry is restrictions both on board and on shore especially with excursions.

We are also on 8 night Greek in June and planning to go as long as the cruise is on. We have flights booked and refundable hotels but nothing else yet. If cruise is cancelled we likely will keep flights and do land trip.

In 2020 we had a huge Summer surge in the southern states and again with the Delta last Summer. It's not seasonal, but let's hope it's run its course. Hopefully, we can all cruise this Summer if we so choose.

my current internal debate - do I book summer 2023 on opening day in case 2022 gets cancelled? 🤔
I always book extra now. Stinks to have money tied up on something I might cancel. But as long as I get cash back eventually, the money I save on the cruise is way more then I make at the bank. I put extra people in the room too, because I never know…

Not Disney but we have two 2-week trips planned.

In June, river cruise from Eastern Europe to Munich then Passion Play (all through Tauck - postponed from 2020).
In July, 2-week fjords cruise on Holland America (replacing our cancelled 2020 DCL).

As of now, we plan to go. We are vaxed & boosted and used to wearing masks and avoiding crowds. We had considered staying in Germany/Switzerland on our own for the ~10 days in between. But, I think we've decided that splitting the trips and coming home gives us more flexibility.

We are doing this exact thing. We've made the decision to go. Flights+hotels to be booked soon.
If we test positive at port or the cruise gets cancelled we'll stay there for a few weeks. Always wanted to do a road trip in Europe.

Always wanted to do a road trip in Europe.

"a road trip" with an automobile is an American way of travel. Europeans use public transportation, such as trains and buses, which are far superior to the American counterparts. Yes, there are cars in Europe, but often not used as first mode of transportation as in the US.

You need to think like a European to successfully navigate Europe.

I don't know what you're talking about. Sure, public transport in Europe is miles ahead of America and for many trips is preferable, but there are many places in Europe where a road trip is the positively ideal way to have a vacation.

One of our options is the Loire valley from Paris. I certainly think I’d want a car for that trip based on when I did it before.

That's part of a trip I did with my parents when I was 17. Definitely did it all by car. We rented a Citroen, totally remember that car....it 'lifted' or something at the back?? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Absolutely. Especially outside of the main cities, public transportation is deficient.
We did an amazing trip in 2017 thru Normandy visiting the WWII beaches in a rental car. Would never have been able to see so many places if we used public transport, which is almost non existent in and around small towns.
@pjacobi isn't wrong, public transport is very good in Europe, especially the trains, but it's only efficient in/around the main cities... plus during covid I wouldn't want to use trains/subways/buses and have a mask on my face around tons of ppl for hours when there is an equal and sometimes better alternative: cars.

I love Cirtroën cars... I make it a point to drive European cars when I go there: I've driven Renault, Citroen and Seat...also most of them are stick shift so I get a chance to brush up on driving those type of cars.. it's almost impossible to find one in North America.

If you plan on sightseeing the European countryside, driving a rental is by far the best option.

I hope rental car prices in Europe aren’t like they are here.

Agreed; I've done quite some road trips through Europe, and have several more planned.
