DCL Dolphin Encounter

Has anybody ever done this excursion? Did you like it? My daughter is disabled and can't swim, so the "swim" with the dolphins might be too much for her. I'm thinking about doing the "encounter" on our Western cruise in August and would like to know how former cruisers feel about it.

hannosmom- we just returned from the 3/15 7-day magic and did this wonderful excursion with my 7 and 10 year old dds. We could not do the "swim" because my youngest was not old enough. The encounter was just right. There is a metal walkway submerged under water upon which we stood as the dolphin- named "amaya"- came up to us. Under the direction of her trainer, we stroked her many times and held her chin for a few kisses-- they took a video and photos as we did this, which were avilable for purchase afterwards. I believe the encounter has a web-site and you could probably contact them in advance to discuss particulars for the handling of a wheel-chair. This was a great experience.

Thank you so much, gramom123, I was beginning to think nobody had done this excursion! It sounds like it would be just right for my daughter. She doesn't use a wheelchair, so that won't be a problem. She can walk (a little unsteady, especially on uneven ground), but she can't swim. I'm pretty sure she will really enjoy this excursion.

Did you have a good cruise? Isn't it just the pits to have to come home again?

We went to book it and they said that is was full. We went direct to the company and had no problem getting reservations and saved a lot of money. My kids 11 and 4 had a blast. It was well worth it.

Hannosmom- we had a terrific vacation! Just a pleasure from beginning to end. My daughters will be nagging for some time to book another one (we'll do the eastern route in two or three years) Enjoy yours!
