DCL/Disney Business model change setup for long term failure?

I was just asking since you were comparing prices. Are the other cruiselines the same price on Presidents week then?

I already have my cruise booked for that week. But based on this year, they are very close to the Wonder.

Zero interest in the Fantasy as it has given itself over to not true Disney that week.
@Dug720, do you sail solo? If so, the new Celebrity Edge will have solo cabins. It looks to be a very cool but elegant ship. It will start sailing Dec. 2018. I believe it went on sale today.

I do. Are they any larger than the coffin-like things on NCL? I would not last a night in some place that small.

I've gotten some very good rates on the Wonder out of Galveston, Miami and San Juan. It's the ship we've been on the most and it's actually my favorite ship. I have seen some good prices on the Wonder early Feb and early March 2018. I have a feeling those cruise will sell pretty fast. The prices are quite a bit lower then the Fantasy.

This one's out of Port Canaveral thank goodness. Well, Miami I wouldn't mind. The other two... Blech.

We are in AZ so Galveston is very close to us. It's always a fun cruise. I can't see anyone from the East Coast flying to Galveston. The itinerary's out of San Juan are very good. Long flight though. It's almost like flying to Europe.

Gotcha. San Juan just really holds no interest for me. Main reason I'll do a beach day excursion or just stay on the ship while we're there. I wasn't thrilled the last time I was there on the Fantasy before they forgot some of us like traditional Disney. LOL.

Interesting. Weirdly, it seems to only be cruising a couple of weeks a month. Unless it's totally chartered for the others - which I've found Celebrity is bad about doing, even after the cruises have been on sale.

Yeah, the website for some reason only has a few of the dates.

Everytime I go to Royals website I want to break my computer. I usually go to Costco if I want to check prices on Royal or Celebrity. Cruises on NCL are usually a little less on Costco just an FYI for anybody.

The Royal and Celebrity websites are a pain. You can tell they're handled under the same IT department. The MSC website is worse than both, though.

When you told me about MSC I went to check it out. After 30 minutes of frustration I gave up. The Seaside does look great, and they have some really interesting European cruises. Great prices! I just can't get the website to work. I like to price out different weeks and it's impossible. What's with these cruiselines and their crappy websites. Do they not make enough money to have a good website? My first non- DCL cruise was Carnival, and what attracted me to them was their website. Most people shop online and I think an appealing user friendly website is a must for sales...but what do I know I'm not a CEO.

The teenand kids clubs are not non existent. . They are open less hours I will agree with you there. The new bigger ships have some pretty nice teen clubs. People smoke on DCL ships also. The entertainment is not as kid friendl I will also give you that, but there's plenty of other stuff to do. I wouldn't want people reading this thread to think that other cruise lines don't have great things for kids and families because that's not true. A lot of people do google searches. Threads from disboards and cc pop up. I wouldnt want anyone researching cruising to have in accurate information.

They may smoke but my children are not exposed in any way to it. I couldn't tell you where the smoking areas are on the Magic to save my life. I do not want to pass through a smoky area ever to reach a destination.

I would LOVE to see cruise websites like some airline websites where you can see a calendar and it shows the lowest fare per date. You could apply filters for destinations and mouse over the price to see the itinerary. It could even have multiple entries per day based on all the various itineraries. It's easy to search on DCL since there are only the 4 ships, but other websites are such a pain. Like you, I use Costco's site when I lose patience with the main sites. But I'm not CEO either. :)

We've been on 6 cruises, 3 non-DCL, and I've never had to walk my child through smokers to get anywhere. Most of the time it's one side of the ship kind of around the pool. Once you know this, you just go in on the other side. Maybe we've been lucky as to the ships we've been on. I know people complain about the NCL Getaway and the smoking in the casino, but we really didn't have a problem. I've very sensitive to smoke with my asthma and small lungs (plus I am NEVER around it at home). I can't wait until they stop allowing smoking in the casino. That is annoying for me since I love the slots! :)

The smoking area is in the adult pool area. I hope on your second cruise your as lucky as you were on your first and there are no smokers.

Some have questioned why us old time DCL cruisers have not seen the value in DCL anymore. When we were looking up some cruises over the weekend, yes we included DCL, I found that an inside room for 7 nights on the Fantasy for a similar time period as our 2014 trip was just shy of 1000 less of what we paid for a Cat V room in 2014. With all the concierge perks we got on the ship, we where questioning was it worth it or not at that price (this is our value judgement, we didn't use the concierge services near as much as we could have). I would definitely have issues paying what they are asking now for an inside room, especially on the Fantasy.

A second example was even going from 2016 to 2017, where we saw a huge jump in prices where a 4 and 5 night B2B in 2016 was less money than a 3 and 3 night B2B in 2017 on the Magic. The itinerary was identical, except the 3 and 3 had one less port. This was why we tried another line.

Again I respect others choices for sticking with DCL, it is just that for us we have seen to many increases from when we started cruising them.
