Hi!

My Mom and I are considering a Disney Cruise in Fall of 2025. Since DCL doesn't seem to have the option to split the main bed into two twins (like most cruise lines do), I'm wondering how comfortable (or uncomfortable) the fold down couch bed is for an adult in their 30s?

TYIA :)

My teen son has issues with it. Says it’s not comfortable and to be honest, it’s not really large for an adult.

I haven't slept on it, but we cruised with my Mom in 2019 and she slept on it and slept great. She usually doesn't, so that's saying something!

It’s a real mattress. But a single (twin) bed so not large. I think you could ask for a mattress topper if that would help. It’s “fine”.

DCL used to have the split bed option but you’re right, most other lines still do.

I would say it’s acceptable up to about a week. To be honest after four nights I’ve had enough of it. Although it’s a normal twin mattress size it’s not long enough for me as I’m a front sleeper and my pillows tend to fall off the end. 😂

The main bed is just so much nicer.

When DS (9) and I sail with my mom, I sleep on it (5'6", average size) and don't have any issues, but agree with above, the main bed is the best!

I (adult woman in her 30's) tried it on the Wonder last year when sailing with my mother, but it wasn't comfortable enough for me. The size wasn't a problem because I'm short, but it was just too firm, almost like there wasn't any cushioning. I don't know if I'm a pampered princess (I do like having lots of pillows!) but I couldn't last even through the first night, so Mum and I ended up sharing the bed (which isn't a problem for us, we've done it before on travel -- we just wanted to try and have our own space on a long cruise!).

I've heard that you can ask for an egg crate topper but we decided sharing the bed was fine so I didn't pursue it.

Hopefully they have Toppers available. I’ll be going on the wish in a couple weeks. My mom is a bed hog, so I’d probably be more comfortable in one of the other options - but prefer a soft mattress.

I've slept on it. I struggle with insomnia and sometimes need to move to a guest room to read in bed. On our last 2 cruises, I moved to the couch and read on my ipad. I was comfy. I'm only 5'1" though.

We sailed on the Wish. The single bed that folds down is comfortable. I tried it out when we sailed. But I didn't sleep on it all night, my grand daughter did, she loved it.
We were in a consierge family Veranda, it had a regular bed, the fold down bed, a drop down bunk and a Murphy bed.

I'm a little concerned about an upcoming sailing on the Dream, it just has the one regular bed, and a drop down bunk, and then just a regular fold out sofa bed. I've never found those type of beds to be comfortable at all. We have 5, so 2 people have to sleep on it. Plan to put 2 kids, ages 10 and 8 on it, but I wish there was the Murphy bed option like the Wish.

For adults, the fold down couch bed on Disney Cruises might be hit or miss some find it okay with a mattress topper, while others prefer the main bed or opt for sharing to avoid discomfort.

My kids were 19 and 21 on our last cruise and had their own room. They took turns sleeping on the sofa bed because the main bed was so much more comfortable.

Disney originally had beds that split on their first cruise ships, but got rid of them at some point.

Our kids were adult sized when we cruised Disney and found the pull down bed and the sofa bed comfortable.
The beds were still splitable when we cruised on the Magic. I suspect the complaints about the "ridge" in the middle were more common that requests to split the bed so they switched. Disney doesn't make changes without a lot of research. And I assume Disney gets far fewer people sharing a stateroom that want the bed split than other lines.

I don't think you can put 5 people in a 4-person room?

You can't officially put 5 people (over age 3) in a room that sleeps 4. I also don't think 2 kids ages 10 and 8 would fit on the sofa bed in a regular room -- the cushions flip over so the bed is the same size as the sofa.

The Family Concierge Veranda rooms on the Dream do have a 2-person sleeper sofa rather than a single-person sofa bed. That would fit 2 kids.
Some of the Deluxe Family Staterooms on the Dream have a single-person sofa bed and a single-person Murphy bed that drops down from the wall (like the Family Concierge rooms on the Wish).

Hope you have a cabin for 5 that has the chair bed by the verandah. Highly doubtful that 2 people can sleep on the sofa bed - it is a twin size mattress.

Concierge on the Dream has a sofa bed that sleeps 2 in addition to the pull down berth that sleeps one. I was VERY surprised to see this since it seems like a downgrade from a non-concierge family stateroom that sleeps 5 that has 3 separate sleeping spaces for the kids.

  • Category 03A
  • Sleeps 5 - 306 sq ft Including Verandah
  • Private Verandah
  • Queen Bed, Upper Berth Single Pull-Down Bed, Double Convertible Sofa

I have been the primary for 11 cruises but only slept in the bed twice.
I love the couch and find it very comfy even at age 60. But the handicap room had this awful pad and not a mattress that seemed like the Murphy bed mattress. Which I also do not recommend. If you get those ask for an extra pad right away before they are gone.
I get the actual bed in September on the Wish!!!

I'm a plus size girlie and I found it to be pretty comfy just a bit small as I am not used to sleeping on a twin. My BFF and I take turns each night sleeping on the bed then the couch and it's fine for a few nights.

I agree, it seems weird that the more expensive option has a worse bed configuration. I noticed it's going in for refurbishment , maybe the rooms will get an upgrade? I was spoiled that my first cruise was the Wish, with a comfy King bedvand the three single beds
