DCL commercial

I'm sure this isn't news to this group haha, but in the last week or so I've seen a commercial for DCL on TV in my area. Nothing like, "book now for 2022" or whatever. Just a simple reminder type ad about the magic, etc etc. I found it interesting that they're priming the market to get ready to start booking.

I’ve seen it at least 5 times and I don’t watch a lot of TV. Interesting timing to say the least.

I saw the ad last night. Made me a little sad since our canceled cruise to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary would have been in a few weeks.

So sorry you're missing your anniversary cruise. Hope you find another way to celebrate. Happy Anniversary!

It made me sad too...we had our first-ever DCL trip booked for October 2020 with friends from my CP and their families. I couldn't believe we had managed to pull it together, everyone actually got booked, etc. I'm really hoping we can reschedule but who knows when/if it will actually happen.

How I dream of going to a theater! We live in Oregon, no such luck. 😩
Well, this one is a “dine in” theatre so they are technically a “restaurant “ and are allowed to be open in limited capacity. It’s kind of cool bc they are showing mostly old stuff like gremlins and ghostbusters and only charging 2$ so it’s pretty easy to book the entire place out which is what we have been doing. We saw gremlins at 8:00 at night with my kids and we had the whole place booked. We brought glow bracelets blinky toys and were generally totally obnoxious dancing around the theatre “restaurant” during the music montages and I told them enjoy it because this is one of those pandemic things that won’t happen again soon. The kids have missed so much I gotta find the bright spots.

I, too, found the timing of this ad blitz to be questionable. With no definite start date for Disney cruises known yet, and an ever-growing pile of people with FCC they need to use once sailings start again, I wouldn't think Disney actually needs to attract a whole lot of new bookings right now.

The other thing that jumped out in that ad was the one brief glimpse of a kid wearing a mask (yet no one wearing them anywhere else in what is probably stock footage from the past).

That’s awesome! Our schools are not open either, so our daughter is taking piano and ukulele lessons in person during school hours. She just started horse back riding lessons today. Totally agree about the bright spots!

New bookings means new deposits and cash for DCL. They still need to pay their staff. FCC isn't a problem if they just increase the prices on new cruises (which people may book anyways due to pent up demand).

If it’s the same one I saw the only other masked person was what looked like a server with a mask and face shield in one of the shots in the dining rooms. They were kind of in the background though.

But hey, the kids are heading back to the class rooms!! :crazy2::confused3 I don't know if that's a good idea from the pandemic point of view, but it IS good for the kids!!! Don't know what I would do if I still had school aged kids at home.

and my entertainment is looking out the windows at the trees across the street just waiting for some of those big branches hanging on by a thread to come crashing down. We are dealing with lots of devastation from the ice storm last month. Lots of "firewood" around the neighborhoods.

From experience, it’s not a bad idea from a pandemic point of view. My 10 year old has been full-time in person since September. No in school transmission of the virus. A few isolated cases over the last 7 months, but in school precautions (masks, extra hand washing, enhanced spacing between desks, etc.) and contact tracing/quarantine when necessary have proven successful. Elementary school is easier to control, though. Older kids are harder to keep apart.

Our schools have been face to face since the fall. Whenever a case pops up, they just handle it. No need to punish the kids by making them be virtual. Most everything is open here and has been since May - restaurants, bars, theaters, gyms, salons. We just wear masks and social distance. Could not imagine living somewhere where everything was still closed.

Yep, but back to school means only two days and for only three hours. I switched my kids to an online web academy, so no changes for them this year. Was talking to another Mom whose daughter is in public school about the specifics. I knew it was two days a week, but was shocked that it is for only three hours. It has been a hardship already for working parents, not sure how they will make this work.

Lots of ”firewood” in our neighborhood, too!

It has been hard! Oregon has one of the lowest rates of death and cases in the U.S. I would understand these measures if we were at risk of filling up our hospitals so that they could not provide care, but not the case here.
