Leaving out the politics of whether its prudent to book a cruise on points---DCL announced today that if you choose to transfer your cruise booking to a Travel Agent, you MUST do so w/in 30 days of booking the cruise.
Discussion on this new policy is found the DCL board here:

My understanding is that DVC is considered a travel agent from DCL's perspective. So....it seems like you may have to transfer your onboard booking to DVC w/in 30 days of booking it while on a cruise in order to get the point discount.
This affects my family since we usually book 1 cabin on cash and 1 cabin on points...and we usually grab an extra dummy booking while on the cruise to have the option of converting one cabin to a points booking. Now the point is moot. If I'm not going to know what cruise to book w/in 3 days, I'm not going to book a cruise on points w/in 30 days.
Before this change, the transfer worked to our advantage since points penalties are high for cancellation and we never transferred cruises to DVC until we were *positive* we were going. Too bad, now.
