DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

Just to answer you....

AA after 4 beers WOW : )

It was my massive and bizarre reaction (ended up in a total blackout, at some point during the evening I tried to beat up my foot-taller-than-me boyfriend (he just caught my arms and held on), and other stuff). It was a shock to have that reaction with 4 beers, and my boyfriend at the time kind of insisted that I do something. It was WEIRD. I had to check things out. AA was part of it. :) Given that we were out that night with people I didn't know, and I left the table a few times, I later wondered if maybe something was put in my beer, but I will never know. That boyfriend wasn't my biggest advocate.

The 4 beers was the shocking part but the reaction was the "I have to do something about this part", as having much of any reaction over an evening involving that was weird. Given my family background on ALL sides, I needed to be careful!

Why do you think they changed their minds back in 2011, then?
Having not seen the press releases for that change and not seeing all the financial events at the time and how they might be effecting the industry, I honestly don't have a clue. I think a lot of people have suspected changes in the carry-on alcohol policy were coming soon, and just had a "had to happen sometime" attitude about it. Now I do understand there was a major policy change that involved guests not being able to bring on alcohol in 2011 that came up suddenly and disappeared suddenly. I am really interested to know how that policy came about and how they determined it was not in their long-term financial interest. Big companies often hire consultants to do all the research for big changes like this. Maybe they have more documentation and evidence this time. Also, negative press swarming around an issue can make a company quickly change a policy.

It was just a joke, I wasnt trying to make fun of the guy
Now, dude. You know some stuff is just off-limits. Even in irony. You'll get sent to some sort of board purgatory where you have to explain every double entendre, every shred of irony, every nuance..... Ugh. So, no AA, no breastfeeding, no homeschooling, no Jesus, and for sweet Mary's sake, no Hitler. I will be holding a seminar.

I think they were testing the waters and were not really ready yet. Since then they have probably crunched the numbers enough to realize it is worth pursuing to go ahead and make the change.

MJ
Somehow, you managed to say this in two sentences. I am deeply impressed.

It was my massive and bizarre reaction...
I hope you don't feel that you need to explain yourself to a bunch of anonymous chat board posters. I know you know that. But I just thought I would throw it out there anyway. :flower3:

How could I have forgotten gluten? Do not say anything about gluten. I also found out recently that some people go chicken killer over dinosaurs of all things. Tread lightly with the dinosaurs. This is a public service.

Unless we are talking about Tokyo Disney. Scratch that Japan in general really. The way they do service... yow!
See the bolded. That is my point. Disney's service isn't unique in Japan. That level of service is everywhere. The "I just don't get that Disney level of service when I travel elsewhere" is either brainwashing or the result of not expanding one's horizons enough.

Thanks : )

Honestly I wasnt trying to offend eanyone

I think they will never email back because they do not want some of these responses in writing...In the thread titled Did you write Disney a letter concerning the change? A poster stated they received a call where the cast member indicated they were removing the alcohol because children were drinking it? Another person was told to "buy the drink of the day" when she stressed budget concerns ...They are not going to take the chance of putting ridiculous, unofficial statements like that in writing. I have written and written, and like you, I work long hours. I also have children to take care of and don't want to spend time on the phone talking in circles...I did receive a call and it was lack luster. I posted about that somewhere within this thread. #dclprohibitiongate2015

Same here. I have been debating on calling them back - but I honestly don't know what to say. I am also converting my email into a letter and snail mailing. I am just so disappointed with the way they are handling (or not handling) this change.

So to that unmentionable topic of gluten, has anyone actually asked if beverages like mikes hard lemonade or Mckenzies, Woodchuck, or other ciders are ok, or are they just assuming they aren't? I honestly treat them as beer due to the alcohol content and would assume that they are ok, but with DCL assumptions will probably make an *** out of me when I would be complaining bitterly as they take it from my carry on lol.

This isn't based on me hoping to take those onboard since I don't particularly like them and have no DCL cruises planned, BUT if I did, for some reason, decide to bring them, I would bet that they won't even look at them. You buy 'em in the beer section of most stores, they look like a beer, they are probably going to be seen on the scanners as beer bottles.

I would presume ciders and malt beverages would be treated like beer, but I would call ahead to the port side concierge and ask. It stands to reason that their new policy will take a few months to sort out. There are so many things that are neither "beer" nor "wine" nor "liquor."

but I would call ahead to the port side concierge and ask.
That said, I would be prepared for a person on the phone to say "No!" whereas I can imagine the security people at the boarding process saying nothing. Everyone has to make their own judgment, but I put this into the "Better to do and ask forgiveness than to ask permission." I am sure that the folks on the phone are being trained to take a very narrow (or literal, depending on your bias) view of the new rules, at least for now.

What about liquor bottles that look like wine bottles... I may (now my inner pirate is coming out) try this, if it gets confiscated, so be it, but I bet with the label turned around, no one will notice a screw top liquor bottle vs. wine bottle.

If your question is: "Are these allowed under the new policy?", the answer is clearly "No". If your question is: "Do you think I will be able to get these on?", it will all depend if the security team is trained to look for ABV information on the bottles or if they can be fooled by the shape alone. One thing that might cause an issue are wine bottles that do not have foil capsules on them. More and more wineries are doing away with the foil caps. But will the security team think that such bottles used to have foil caps, have had their original contents consumed, and have now been re-purposed for the smuggling of liquor. It is really easy to re-cork a wine bottle and push the cork all the way in to the point where no one would ever know that the bottle had previously been opened. Of course, you would need a corkscrew to open it again. I know people who have cruised on other lines who have been questioned about bottles without foil, and have been accused of trying to smuggle on liquor.

That was my thought too. Unless someone is making you take it out so that they can inspect it, a bottle of Mikes Hard Lemonade will look just exactly like a bottle of beer on the scanner.
I hate to think what the security lines are going to look like if they have us take everything out of our bags so that they can see the label.

I would think so as well.
