DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

Anyone wonder how the atmosphere will be on the ship for those who have paid in full and are going not happy about the new policies.

A six pack or two bottles of wine per port is plenty. Honestly, if the entire cruise is made or broken on getting ****-faced for less, then people need to rethink their priorities.

If you are on a 4 night cruise yes I agreed that this may be OK but I'm on an 11 night cruise with 1 port stop! This would be less than 1 beer a day and I'm on holiday so guess what I may even want 2! You may not like to have a drink of an evening but I do and I think your comment is a bit over the top to be honest. Noone is suggesting we want to get drunk here we are just trying to make the cruise more cost effective by not spending a fortune on drinks (which to be fair are not as good as I could get elsewhere). As someone who does not particularlly like beer or wine I would rather have a spirit and this makes the cruise more costly for me even if I'm just doing 1 drink a day. Perhaps your priorities differ but with the amount of money I am paying I would like to be able to save some here and there as I'm already paying 200% for my room as a single occupant and most other cruise lines offer discounts (albeit only 25% off usually). Just because this change in policy doesn't effect you doesn't mean you have to be rude about it!

The implication that people who might be affected by this policy change are just lushes and drunks is grossly unfair and unjustified. I don't eat raw cauliflower; however, I don't draw any sort of value judgment about those who do. . .well, okay, I do think they're kinda weird. Still. . .

The problem I am seeing with alot of people regarding this and alot of other issues today is that they don' care how it effects everyone. They care how it effects them and if it doesn't effect the, then it shouldn't effect anyone else. If it does effect them, it should effect everyone.

People are different, families are different. We don't have to always agree, nor should we. BUT priorities, opinions, choices and preferences (so long as they do not infringe on anyone else) should be accepted and welcomes by others, not judged by people who don't necessarily see it the same.

Again, I go back to the beverage package which I expect DCL to announce. I personally like the idea of pricing cruises more individually.

Don't include or let me bring alcohol, but let me pay for packages....I'm okay with that. BUT, now give me the option of not going to the MDR (severely over rated in my opinion). If someone wants to eat there nightly, let them pay for it. Same with Senses, Child care, etc. I understand why they don't do it that way, but I like the idea of more personalization (and pricing that matches) while cruising.

Norwegian sounds right up your alley then. Not being snarky. We like them very much. They offer the exact pricing model you suggest.

Our October meet is livid, to put it mildly. Nothing like going into a cruise with Bad Blood, which has sort of become our new theme song.

It would be plenty for you! Not for everyone.

It would be more than enough for me (I might have 1 drink during a week long cruise), but I can easily see why others would have an issue. Plus people might want other alcohol (I would - the one drink I might have wouldn't be beer or wine). Also, I think, for many people it is the principle of the thing, rather than the alcohol in and itself. At least in part.

You're still thinking that this is about people pissed off that they can't drink. They can most certainly still drink!! They can drink at Disney bars, and at Disney dinner locations, and at Disney's pool, and at Castaway Cay...People who want to get ****faced (as you put it) can and will. What it's about is MONEY.

Now, let's say you are someone who likes the occasional drink on vacation. Let's say 2 drinks per day. That's totally reasonable, and certainly not enough to get anyone ****faced. At DCL prices, $10 per drink is not unreasonable. So, 2 drinks per day on a 7 day cruise comes to $280 per couple. Do you like Disney stealing $280 from you and your family? Because that's what they just did to those people who had already paid in full or made other nonrefundable plans. Even if you don't drink and were willing to GIVE that $280 to the Disney company of your own free will, can you not understand the unhappiness of other people who feel cheated out of their money? Do you have so much money that you could easily just take nearly $300 in cash and burn it for fun?

Also, I think, for many people it is the principle of the thing, rather than the alcohol in and itself. At least in part.

For me, it is this. I considered carrying on a bottle of wine last cruise, which would still be allowed under the new policy, but decided not to because I knew I wouldn't be spending much time in my stateroom. So the policy change really doesn't impact me, but I'm still upset about it. I see this as yet another example of Disney taking away something that sets them apart from others and wonder what will go next. I noticed a considerable decline in customer service during our last trip to WDW, so much so that I left not feeling sad about departing. The bottom line seems to be more important than truly providing a magical guest experience any more.

And I think it is horrible to make this change on people who have already passed their PIF date without offering a full refund or at least some OBC to make up for it.

Well, not you specifically and I apologize if it looks like I was attacking you. It's just frustrating to see a bunch of people dismiss our concerns because this one change doesn't affect them. I want people to understand that yes, this is one change. But it's also one change in a series of changes showing that there's a pattern of cutting back on perks while charging more for the product. At what point is there no longer a reason to pay a premium?

I will take you up on that drink, though. I need it! :)

BooToYou7, I can see why people are upset about this change, though I could careless about it, since I save money to buy the drinks on the ships so I don't need to bring any on, I know others can't save money like that so not telling anyone to do so. By frustrated I hope you mean your frustrated with DCL, you can't be frustrated with me for not carrying about the policy. That part was kind of confusing because it seems your saying your frustrated with people not carrying about this policy. As for a bunch of changes, I will say has everyone been living under rocks? Guess I'm good with change being a Nets(NBA team) fan and been going through changes for years so don't sweat the small stuff

OK....I think what got on me on this new change is that the "nickel & diming" us is getting worse...
"YES", we love the Disney Bubble @ Sea, but with the cost of cruising on DCL keeps raising, to include Palo/ excursions, etc...
and the perks are either being taken away and or are changing, CC gifts are getting cheaper as well
What is next????
People have to vent...
It is just the principle of it

yeah people have to vent, I'm down with that, but in my view and I could be reading it wrong too, a few here to me seem to be trying to tell others who don't care to care. that's that only issue I have lol. I say complain to DCL all you want

BTW just to post the slightly different response I just received (word for word copied in):

We regret the disappointment expressed in your email. It is not our intent to upset our loyal Disney Cruise Line Guests.

Please allow me to explain. We regularly evaluate our policies and procedures and it is true that we have recently changed our alcohol beverage policy to limit the amount and types of alcohol Guests may bring onboard in our home- and out-ports.

For the sake of clarity, as you probably know, effective for cruises embarking on or after September 30, 2015, Guests 21 years and older may bring aboard a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) in their carry-on luggage at the beginning of the cruise and at each port-of-call. This type of alcohol beverage policy is not unusual in the cruise industry.

Additional information on our policies can be found on our website at:
https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/planning-center/my-cruise-plans/faqs/preparing-for-your-cruise/alcohol-onboard-policy/

Though it may take time for the input we receive to be fully assessed and acted upon as a whole, please believe that we are seriously committed to, and diligently working toward, providing our Guests the kind of magical vacation they have come to expect from Disney. We will continue to strive to provide our Guests with the finest vacation and entertainment experiences, and we are very grateful for your valuable input to help us achieve that goal.

We hope these concerns will not affect your regard for Disney, as there is magic in the Disney name.

oh boy.......can we mix in elevator hogs, row savers, and fe values into this thread somehow? There just isn't enough churning going on here....kick it up a notch, for cryin' out loud, people! I'm trying to be amused here!!!!

Yes, I do like their structure and we've tried them once before. But I don't like the ship they have leaving out of New Orleans (where I am from). I like the ships on RC or DCL out of Galveston or Port Canaveral much better so it leaves me with the decision to choose each time...do I want a ship I like more or structure I like more.

This is what I got, too.
