DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

I got an email today about it that appeared to be an "announcement" or notice email instead of a reply to an email I sent. But I've sent several, so who knows. It would be wise (I know, don't hold your breath), if DCL did email everyone, because, as you say, the port will be a mess with everyone dealing with liquor.

I received the same reply. I replied to their reply and BCC'd Anthony Connelly and Karl Holz. No reply yet, but I wouldn't normally expect one. The customer reps are just doing what their told and I imagine would get in trouble if they go off script. And lets be honest, Connelly and Holz probably don't read their own email.

I've still had no replies to my emails. Time to start calling

Let us know what they say. I wouldn't expect much, but at least its harder for them to stay on script when they are actually speaking to someone on the phone.

Really? You think that's what this is about? Okay, let's try this another way:

Yesterday, DCL announced that it will now cease providing free buffet on its ships. It seems that people were abusing their generous all you can eat policy. Also, people were carrying their food all over the ship, making a mess and disturbing other guests. Plus, obviously, Disney was losing money on these folks. It's not like you can't get buffet, you just have to go to Palo and pay their cover charge. You can't complain, DCL can change any of its policies on a moment's notice. And it's just too bad that you may have planned your vacation budget not to include paying for lunches or any food on Castaway Cay.

It saddens me that some people (I won't say it out loud in my post, but I'm particularly accusing the overweight ones) are so dependent on their food fix that they might consider cancelling their cruise because of something like this.

Hilarious!!!

I don't mind that they made this change but it should cover ALL alcohol not just liquor. I don't drink wine or champagne, why can't I bring a small amount of rum. They are both alcohol. Fare is fare, it should be all alcohol or none.

WEll, they did not say much, they cannot really. But the castmemeber did say, "I understand, and I don't know why they changed it really." She admitted, on a recorded line, that they are not even equipped to answer their customers... I did get my canned email and my responses are going out, we just have to keep trying.

Not that I think it will make any difference, but once you receive the standard reply from Disney customer maybe including Karl Holz (president of DCL) and Anthony Connelly (Senior VP of operations) in your reply (or BCC like I did) may help get attention. Probably not, since even many fellow cruisers seem to have no sympathy either, but worth a try.

Not sure if posting email addresses is allowed, but if you google their names they are easily found (hint: firstname.lastname at disney.com).

I posted something similar on the Disney Cruise Line facebook and it was deleted. I did not even put in the bit about the hint or googling them...Names of higher ups within a publicly traded company are not exactly secrets.

Just curious, can you still buy liquor bottles on board in their gift shop?

My family and I set sail on the Fantasy on Sept 26. We just made it.
We are on the same sailing...I had to read and re-read he policy a few times to make sure we would be "ok" to hoist up our cocktail flag on our connecting verandas with the family. I sure hope no rules start as of 30th mid cruise?

I realize your post was meant to be funny but a person can't compare food to alcohol. Food is something we need to survive. Alcohol is just an extra.

Try to escalate the call if you can. It's sort of like trying to deal with the phone/cable company - first tier customer service is authorized to do very little, so you do what you can to get bumped up to their manager (or customer retention) who has greater authority to make decisions and cut deals.

Bread and water are something we need to survive. All day, all you can eat, cruise buffets are not. They are a perk which is included in the price of your cruise. When I go to WDW (and it's not "free dining" season), I do not expect to have my food paid for. Let alone do I expect there to be a buffet always available for my perusal. I make reservations and fork over my credit card. What is to say that cruises will not start charging for food? Nothing, other than the collective outrage of cruise passengers.
