DCL back in NYC

I myself would love it! I can tell you that the last 3 cruises after Labor Day did NOT sell well. DVC members were able to get up to a Cat 4 for less than the price of an inside stateroom on any/all of the last 3 cruises. Most of the NY schools are back in school around labor day, and I bet that in addition to the no so exciting itinerary played a part. Now I was not excited about the itinerary, my DH and myself decided to go and had a fabulous time and made some really great friends. With that said, I would go again and have hopes they would add Bermuda as well! Besides, what's bad with driving to port!?

I would love to see them back in NY and would happily cruise much more often if I could simply drive 2 or 3 hours to the port.

My itinerary? 9 nights

Day 1 NYC
Day 2 At Sea
Day 3 Bermuda, stay overnight
Day 4 Bermuda, depart 3 PM
Day 5 At Sea
Day 6 Key West
Day 7 Castaway Cay
Day 8 At Sea
Day 9 At Sea
Day 10 NYC

Not sure this itinerary would be feasible.

Its about 750 nautical miles to Bermuda from NY and takes about 34 hours to go that distance...so the Bermuda piece is probably doable. Its the Bermuda to Key West that I doubt will work...

Its a little more than 1000 nautical miles to Key West from Bermuda...that's a good 45-50 hours...it can't be done with just one sea day.

Perhaps the BIGGER problem is pier space. NCL, RCI and Celebrity have a pretty good monopoly on the available berthing space there. It would be tough to get a spot to dock, especially overnight.

I believe based on their success, they'll be back to NYC. I too was hoping it would be in 2014. I believe the cruises, except for the last few Canada sailings in September sold well (and at premium prices -- I know the couple of cruises to nowhere ended up selling at costs $300/night/person!) We certainly would have sailed more in September if the itineraries for the last few cruises weren't all the same. We wanted (and did) a b2b with the FL/Bahamas and Canada but the last FL/Bahamas was at the end of August (was plenty full as it ended right as schools would be going back in the NY/NJ area). If they had one more FL/Bahamas, those of us without kids certainly would have taken advantage of it.

I would love to do Bermuda with them. I would also love if they stayed in the fall a little longer and did some of the longer Canada/New England sailings that correspond to the leaves turning. (September sailings are always a bit difficult to fill with schools just starting back and peak hurricane season looming, but if they did something different, it could certainly be a ship filler for a few weeks!) I think if they added a few more cruises to nowhere from NYC, they would certainly be able to fill them and attract new cruisers. I know quite a few people in the area who didn't know DCL was cruising from the area until it was too late. So there are lots more opportunities for DCL from NYC (or could we check out Bayonne? That would be ideal for me personally! ;) )

Tough question!

Pros:

Easy to drive to port as we're only about 2 hours away.
Cool to sail past the Statue of Liberty.
Different itinerary!

Cons:

Parking very expensive at port.
High density of people from NYC area (don't throw things at me, I grew up in the Bronx! We just noticed that the folks on board were truly not as happy and were much more complainy than those on other DCL cruises we've taken from PC. Of course, it was August and we normally sail off-season.)
Terminal was a nightmare.

Juggling all that, we would probably do it again IF the itinerary was enticing. Didn't find the Canada stops to be as good as I know Canada can be. Bermuda sounds like a no-brainer -- where do we book?!?!

I would not care where we went if DCL came to NY - We'd be on it and looking to book a BackIIBack!!!!

So Disney -If your doing some research you need to remember...

i also would love for dcl to port out of nyc it would be less stress for us and don't have to pay airfare i would go on a cruise more often if they port out
nyc. the airfare makes the cruise to expensive and very hard to afford im going out of hartford to orlando on a cruise to the caribbean. We were gonna go on ncl the new breakaway because they port out of nyc but thought about is more and more we changed it to dcl and bite the bullet and fly to orlando.

For those of us in the Northeast, cruising out of NY is a great option. It makes a trip with a family much more affordable (save on airfare) and manageable (driving so much easier with kids). I vote NYC yes!

We loved sailing out of NYC last summer to Halifax and Nova Scotia-took the train from DC. Very easy! Loved that itinerary! We have always said we would book DCL out of NY if they went to Bermuda-have been to Bermuda on another cruise line and was not impressed. We would love the Disney atmosphere on a cruise to Bermuda-crossing my fingers!

I'm hoping that they will still announce it. I loved having the port in NYC. I may resort to another cruiseline.

DOCKING FEES AND ALL OTHER EXPENSES ASSOCATED WITH NY ARE DOUBLE. New Orleans is offering a deal it will be hard for DCL to turn down . Look for Magic and Wonder to show up anywere. That includes down under. Biggest mistake DCL make was signing seven year deal with Port Canivarl for Dream & Fantasy. Look for another DCL ship.

I really hope they do come back to NYC.
I went on 2 of the 2-night getaway cruises last summer and had a wonderful time. We live about 30 minutes from the port and it was great not having to spend the money to fly.

I was on the first Canada cruise with my DH, and the last one with some friends. The weather was actually better on the September cruise! I had a great time on both cruises, and loved cruising out of New York. I loved both port cities in Canada, and will go back to each for a vacation, rather than just for a day. I'd love to see DCL head for Bermuda from New York, too. The 8 night itinerary didn't appeal to me, but that's just a personal choice.

It was the first time we had sailed from New York, even though it's very close to home. It won't be the last time.

DH is retiring within the next two months, and after that, we will probably be looking at cruises out of New York because we can cruise more often from there than from Port Canaveral since there's no airfare involved.
