It is not horrible. Some people really like it and some dislike it. I found it very dissapointing but not horrible. It is still better than going to a Six Flags IF you are not a huge coaster fan. There are some pretty areas with some really fun stuff and some really bland / ugly areas with not much. I personally think there is only one E-ticket attraction and that is It's Tough to Be a Bug. It has some interesting architecture and landscaping and a couple good places to eat. Give it a try and form your own opinion.
I like California Adventure a lot. Paradise Pier is my favorite area. The rollar coaster, California screamin' is wonderful! We rode it ten times earlier this month because there were no lines and we loved it every single time! There are several great attractions besides the roller coaster...Soarin' over California, in my opinion, is one of the best rides ever created. It's just amazing. The water ride is fun, too, but I don't usually ride it because you get seriously wet. The Aladin show is something you don't want to miss and the ferris wheel is very interesting....different to say the least! By the time you go, Tower of Terror may be open. Also, dont' miss the electrical parade!
CA is not as pretty as Disneyland, but it is very nice. Some parts ARE very pretty...especially the paradise pier area. I think, because the park is young, it is still growing and will evolve into a park that is as good as Disneyland. Trees need time to grow, new attractions will be added, and new ideas will form. Regardless, it IS a good park, and I think anybody who doesn't go there is really missing out. IMO, Soarin' over Califnornia alone is worth making the trip for!
I also love DCA- If you start comparing it itll never stand up but as its own park that is still finding its feet its got a great beginning... Soarin is awesome, Screamin is awesome, Aladdin is great- Tower will be great- I say give DCA 5-10 years and itll be a world class park (if it gets lots of TLC from Rasulo and Ouimet)
DCA has its own charm.. not at all like DL which I think was the whole point. It's a seperate park so it should be different.
I agree some areas are bland and blah.. while others are themed so beautifully. If you have children take them to the Redwood Creek Challenge trail (It is now Brother Bear themed) - it's a nice change of pace for the whole family. Having a place for children to run and play (without Mom and dad attached to them every two seconds) is quite refreshing in a theme park.
Look at how much they have changed since it's opening.. new Eticket ride (TOT), theatre style productions (Aladdin)(Disney Playhouse), new area just for families with lil kids (Bug's Land).
I agree it will take a few years for this park to grow and emerge into an awesome park.
DCA is very nice. Just don't expect it to be like Disneyland. It has it's own perks and it's own let downs just like any park. People just keep judging it by Disneyland standards. Judge for yourself on DCA's own merits.
We actually prefer DCA. My kids really enjoy it I think most people just don't understand *how* to do DCA and Disney doesn't do a very good job of explaining. Most people go in and do the rides and then the they think there's nothing left to do (partly because they rarely had to stand in a line! Partly because there are far fewer rides). Take the time to stop and enjoy ALL of the attractions (do the WHOLE animation building, go on the bread and tortilla tours, see all the shows) and I'm sure you'll really enjoy DCA.
-- If you go in expecting it to have a ride around every corner like DL or a bunch of thrill rides like Six Flags than you'll be disappointed, but if you're looking for a relaxing yet fun filled day, I'm sure you'll have fun.
