DCA TSMM - park opening question

The last time we visited DCA (Oct 08), folks who wanted to ride Toy Story Mania at park opening were ushered around GRR to stand in a separate line across the bridge from Ariel's Grotto. Is this still the case? If so, any idea how far ahead of park opening they start that queue?

Thanks!

When we were there last week, this was not happening, especially on WOC days. We went aon a Grad night, so we didn't have the WOC crowds. In fact the morning we were there at opening TSMM wasn't even open for another 30 minutes or so. We came back soon after the ride opened and the line was already 45 minutes.

There was no separate Toy Story only line when we went on Tuesday. They had rope drop. People waited in the corridor next to where they were working on the Little Mermaid building and listened to the jackhammers :). Once the rope dropped people walked and ran over the bridge into Paradise Pier toward Screamin' and Toy Story. Most people headed right to Toy Story and got right into the queue. A few people split off for Screamin' and were lined up outside the queue since apparently Screamin' wasn't open yet. We were in the Toy Story pack. We didn't run or push anyone or cut ahead to catch up with anyone, so we ended up waiting about 15 minutes to ride. When we got off the ride, the line already extended beyond the sign saying 45 minutes from this point.

Thanks for the replies. I thought they were smart for doing the separate line back in 2008, but of course that was when the ride was fairly new. Do they at least have a group of CMs walking in front of people to prevent a "running of the bulls" to the ride entrance? That seems to work pretty well at DHS.

On Tuesday, there were no CMs walking the crowd, but they were stationed along the way between rope drop and the big rides shouting out occasional reminders to walk, not run. Most people were walking. It was really just a few people who were running and even pushing a little, but that always happens, and they didn't listen to the CMs asking them to slow down. But since they got ahead of everyone, they soon weren't a bother to anyone.

I watched of few of those no listening people get removed last year. Boy did they whine:rotfl2:

Just the other day I was reading a thread about WDW, bemoaning the fact that they do NOT do that sort of thing, and how well it works at DCA! :upsidedow

I've never experienced the separate line thing.

The only thing I've experienced is a rope-drop at GRR (after being let into DCA half an hour early...please note the last time I was there was BEFORE WOC started, and things have changed with that since). People with early reservations at Ariel's go to the front and are let through, but the rest just got to wait. We've had the fun of being right up at the front, so we know that the security CM put the rope down a few minute before he let everyone through. It has started off slowly, but you're always going to get the runners...

I would have loved to see that happen. :lmao:

My kids just about got flattened last week during the mad dash and my kids walk super fast. People were pushing and running. Not fun. Then we get to TSMM and it was down. We sat and waited, the older 2 rode Screamin' and low and behold as soon as they got off their second ride TSMM opened and we got right on. The runners had taken off because they didn't want to wait. I smiled. ;)
