As we were leaving DCA after WOC:SoL last night (around 8:30), there were THOUSANDS of people standing in the entry plaza waiting to enter the park.

Does anyone know what the event was?

It was a California Radio Station private party. KOST 103.5 Holiday Kick Off at DCA Nov. 17th 9pm - 1am

You got me curious, so I googled it.

How did you like WOC? We go after Thanksgiving, and have never done WOC. Debating the Dessert Party, but it is so $$$. Did you have a good view from where you watched it? Thanks!

I watched it (the holiday one) and I loved it. Done the dessert party twice. In my opinion, meaning what I would do, is the dessert party or skip the show altogether. The idea of standing around for an hour or two after a long day is unbearable. I realize that may just be my personal thoughts though. Be prepared though, once you the dessert party - you may ruin any other way to see it like I did!!

Loved WOC:SoL! We've seen WOC three times now: the 60th Anniversary version, the original version, and SoL. I think SoL may be my favorite.

We pulled yellow fastpasses around 10am (park opened at 9, but we did other things first).
We got in line at 7:20, and were about a third of the way back through the queue.
It seemed like things were behind schedule and chaotic last night, they didn't drop the ropes until about 7:50 (8pm advertised start time). I think it was almost 8:10 when the show started.
We were not quite on the railing, but behind just one set of people (one of whom was in a chair). We were in the second tier from the water, fairly close to the center.

Anyway -- our view was good. Previously, we'd had watched from the bridge (blue), which are great, unobstructed views (you can really see all of the projections). However, being down in the middle feels a little more immersive and impressive, although you can't see all of the projections.

I was one of those thousand lol I got the chance to attend the private party last night. 9pm-1am It was crowded in the esplanade. Kost played Christmas music while guests wandered the park. There was a female mariachi band practicing near pacific wharf, and a cooking demo being filmed near bugs life land. Other than that, attractions were open, Mickey, Minnie and Pluto were the only characters I saw. I enjoyed the new world of color show! More for the fact I didn't have to stand to see it lol I thought the flow was off, but I enjoyed the individual scenes/songs/effects. Love the new Soar in'!!! I was really against them changing it, but I kinda like the new one better. Missed the chance to ride Tower, but hopefully I'll gt to ride it before it upgrades.
Forgot to add that they passed out "Happy birthday Mickey' pins! So cute!

How Fun! Congrats on going! Did you win it somehow?

You mentioned not standing for WOC - how did you score that? Did they have special seating?

I am looking forward to the new Soarin' glad to hear you liked it. And how fun on the pin Mickey Birthday Pins!

Thanks! It was a nice event! There were multiple ways to win, via KOST 103.5 and KTLA also, there's a thread on here about it. Also, employees who work at certain affiliated Companies with Disney gave out tickets. I got one from a family member who won.

There's an area, as you walk up the back way towards paradise pier, coming from the Grand Californian Hotel, bypassing Under the Sea ride, there are benches located to the slight left. Now, to my understanding, those are normally occupied by the disabled or reserved; not sure. Since this was a private event, hardly anyone was standing/leaning against the rails to watch the show, so people were able to sit down and get a relatively decent view! There were two showings, 9:30 pm and 12:30 am and most people went to the first viewing. The park felt so light, and more open than usual due to the limited guest attendance. The only thing is, this party has been held at Disneyland in the past. And with all of Paradise pier being shut down for WOC, it felt slightly congested, but no where near the feeling of a 'light' day at the parks. I usually skip WOC because I don't want to stand, so very grateful to not have to pay for a dessert party etc. for a seat.

I really enjoyed Soarin' and regret not riding twice. Wasted most of my time waiting to ride RSR, due to small ride breakdown. By the time, I got off, Soarin' was no longer 15 mins, it was 45. I hope you enjoy it, too!
