DCA refurbishments update

We plan to go to DLR in May2-12 of this year. I have been lloking on this chat board for any updates to DCA. I know that the Toy Story Mania area is under construction. I also heard that they would be closing the entrance to DCA and re-route the entrance through the old Millionaire building area. Has any of this occurred yet or does anyone know of any schedules for this?

I also heard that in DL, Indianna Jones attraction will be going down for refurb sometine in spring. I love this ride! Are there any updates as to when this will be closing?

I look forward to going in May. I also appreciate any updates any of you may be able to provide.

Toy Story Midway Mania will be opening in June (as far as I can tell), they are having media events in early June. I haven't heard anything with regard to the date of construction beginning on the DCA temporary entrance. I think that will come long after your trip in May.

Also haven't heard any news of Indy going down, and it is not on the refurb calendar as of yet. I know many are hopeful for an updated Indy based on the next movie. . .

I'm guessing the Indiana Jones refurbs are to have it in good shape when the new movie is released? Or is it just me hoping...since I'm a WDW vet taking my first DL trip on 5/17-5/22 and really wants to finally see the Indy ride?

that was our stategy too, thought they'd have some hoopla for the film's release ala POC?

I don't think Indy will get a major movie rehab (like Pirates) unless it does well in the theatres. So far, I would count on Indy being open. Also, if you're lucky, you might get a soft opening of Toy Story Mania.

I hope Indy stays open and will be open in August. That is my favorite ride and I would hate to miss it.

That is a really great link, thank you for posting it!!! It doesn't sound like they will be doing a whole lot this year and it sounds like the Bug's Land won't be having anything done. Thank you for sharing.

I have one quick question about the entrance, when they say the Hollywood Back Lot opening. Will they be closing off the big entrance that is in front of DL with the California letters?? I sure hope not, because I love that and would love to get my photo by that in March and then in Dec. when they are decorated for Christmas, so just curious. Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out with this.

Yes, they are planning on removing the California letters and completely demolishing and reconstructing the main DCA entrance.

Well, is they say that they won't start using the temporary entrance until 2010 I'm guessing that they may start as early as January 2010 but not before then, so you still have almost 2 years.

That would be awesome but I guess we'll have to wait and see. My understanding is they are starting at the back and moving forward so I guess we will see.

Oh NOOOOO!!!!! I too totally love the California letters, and my kids are always amazed to see them "transformed" for holidays! Anytime you go people are taking pictures in front of the letters. I wish they'd rethink that

The gates at DCA will be moved out into the esplanade to about the point where the letters are now. I suppose they could move the letters out further if they wanted to keep them. But the whole idea is to make over the entrance into DCA to the Los Angeles/Hollywood of the 1920's when Walt Disney arrived in California. The letters will not fit that theme. I am excited how the entrance and HPB area are to be transformed.

Ooh! What's a "soft opening"? We are going to be there May 5-9.
