Hi everyone,
We are so excited to be planning a trip to Orlando in August... we will have with us a 10 month old and our sea creature obsessed just 5 year old.

Because DS5 is so obsessed with sea creatures it seems a shame not to visit DC. It could be another 3 years til we get to visit Orlando and who knows what he will be 'into' by then, but it is an awful lot of money.

My big question is this: Is there enough for him to do and enjoy at this young age? He loves swimming under the water and has asked about snorkeling and visiting a coral reef, how does this all work when you are there? He will have no experience, do the kids pick it all up quickly? Would he have a life jacket to keep him afloat if necessary? The website also mentions bridges and places to explore etc, and beaches... are these really good?

I imagine that DS 10months won't get huge amounts out of it, but dh and I can swap the childcare and playing in the shallows with him I imagine.

Another question is about food... what are the meals and snacks like? DS5 is quite a fussy eater...

Thanks in advance.

Just so you know they would not let DS swim with the dolphins there until he is 6 years old. I don't know if it would be disappointing for him to see other people get time with them and then not be allowed to participate himself. That being said, if you or DH do the dolphin swim they would probably let him come into the water for a minute to get a family photo with the dolphin.

If he loves swimming all day then I think there would be enough there for him to do. Basically there is a swimming area that has fish in it (the coral reef part) and one that doesn't, which leads off to a lazy river. The depth of the water in the lazy river can get kind of deep, but there are life jackets around for the taking for him and DS 10 months. Everyone gets a snorkel and mask to use for the day, and he can use just the mask or both parts if he wants. It is fun, but no big deal if he doesn't want to use it. I have seen plenty of kids using them so I don't think he would have any trouble with it. There is also an aviary, where he can feed the birds, and places to watch little monkeys and otters. Lots to see!

In terms of food, they have some pretty good chicken fingers, and then I think stuff like pasta, hamburgers, french fries, and salmon. Snacks are things like bags of chips, soft pretzels, cookies, and ice cream. It is a grab what you want sort of place, so if he doesn't like one thing you can just grab something else.

I personally think that he would love it, but if he would be interested in the dolphin part I would probably wait until he was older and able to do that portion too.
