DC folks - can I walk from Rosslyn Metro to Georgetown?

Going to be in Arlington in a few weeks with my daughter and I am afraid we must check out Georgetown Cupcakes. I'd like to walk from Rosslyn station rather than transfer to the bus, is that doable and pedestrian friendly (walking via Key Bridge)?

I use to take student groups from Toronto to Washington DC and we stayed in Rosslyn and most nights walked the bridge to Georgetown to have dinner and hang out. You should be fine.

Yep, I did this in May and it was a long walk but very doable!!! It didn't help that I was wearing flimsy sandals and my son was not interested but you should do fine!

It was very cool to walk over the bridge!!!

Yes...is it the Key Bridge? But it's a freaking long walk. I thought I was going to have to do it to get out of the city on 9/11.

You're better off going over to the Foggy Bottom metro stop across the river to get to Georgetown.

Foggy Bottom is a better option if you are coming from Maryland or DC, but if you're in Arlington anyway, walking across the Key Bridge is better. It's actually shorter than the walk from Foggy Bottom (check http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/) and the bridge view is scenic.

We'll be at Crystal City on the blue line. That pedometer looks very useful if I can figure out how to make it work. I'd better quantify 'freaking long walk' before heading out with my teenage DD

Edit: never mind, I figured it out using the Walking beta on regular google maps. 0.9 mile walk, that's not bad

DH walks from Rosslyn to his office (right by Roosevelt Island) every morning--he says it takes about 5 minutes with traffic lights. From his office over Key bridge to Georgetown it's about 15 minutes with traffic lights (when the weather's nice he walks it on his lunch hour quite often)--but he says it's a really hot walk right now

Yes, I'd walk from Rosslyn to G'town. Yes, Foggy Bottom is in the district, but it's a bit of an uphill walk over to G'town, where the Rosslyn walk is a bit flatter, and once you've crossed Key Bridge, you are right there on M Street.

DH says his boss sometimes brings in cupcakes from there for the staff and they're to die for! They're also huge . I guess I'm going to have to have him bring one home for me the next time--there's probably a reason he hasn't told me about this before now

Any recommendations for good restaurants right in that area (33rd and M)? Not overly fancy, I'll be with a teen , but she's a fairly adventurous diner.

Watch your time getting there .... they're only open until 7pm most days. This spring, word on the street was they often ran out of cupcakes early in the day (very early afternoon) and they also would occasionally close the store during posted business hours - dunno why, maybe make deliveries or something. I think they've made progress working these kinks out but you may want to call before you venture out, just to make sure it's worth the trip.

Yes you can walk from Rosslyn to Georgetown from the Metro. Just cross over the Key Bridge. Alternatively, you can catch the Blue Bus from the Rosslyn Metro to Georgetown for $1.35. http://www.georgetowndc.com/getting-here/shuttle

Once you get over the bridge, make a right turn onto M st. The cupcake place is on Potomac St. You'll need to be on the left hand side of M st, since the other side of Potomac St. won't get you much except a yoga place, Dean & DeLucca's, and my husband's office.

Be forewarned, I don't think Georgetown Cupcake is worth it. Yes some people swear by them. But I was not wowed by Georgetown Cupcake and their artificial shortages. I found them to be small, dry, and the frosting to be lacking in yummy frosting goodness. (I also hate CakeLove...darn dense cupcakes then need to be brought to room temperature before enjoying!) For a cupcake comparison to see what I really mean, when your done at Georgetown Cupcake head over to Furin's (also in Georgetown). Now those are some cupcakes! http://www.furins.com/

you should also check out Baked & Wired in Georgetown. I stopped in after chunking down $400 on a haircut (which I love) but a $4 cupcake soothed the pocket book pain! The cream cheese frosting on the red velvet cupcake was to die for.
