Just wanting to hear from the Washington DC locals - has the wintry mix bad weather started in the area yet?

DH has a 7pm flight out of Reagan National tonight and I am really hoping he can make the drive from Springfield to DCA safely and that the flights are operating on schedule.

I saw a Facebook post from a friend in NoVa that their schools were called off for the day but that the weather where she is at hasn't started yet so they were shocked that school was out.

Everyone stay safe up there!

I live an hour west of Reagan and there's a light layer of snow on the ground here - and its currently snowing.

It's been snowing pretty steadily in the District since about 10. Looks like about an inch so far.

Traffic is a mess - not only with accidents and covered roads, but it looks like rush hour out there. I guess everyone has to leave early because the schools are closing!

I am in Frederick about 45 minutes west. It is snowing heavily here and schools have dismissed early. I went out for lunch and it is a mess. The Snow Emergency plan is in effect as well. We are only supposed to get about 1" though.

Wow we must be in completely different areas of the District, I was just outside GW hospital and we do not have an inch of snow as of now although it is still snowing. Traffic is same as usual around here, also no one has left early yet, it seems pretty light.

Our schools didn't close (shocking!), but my driveway has about .5'' of snow on it and it is sticking. I have to go get DD from school in about an hour and a half. Hope the roads will be clear.

I'm also up near Frederick and the roads are very slick. My son's bus was supposed to have been home close to a half hour ago.

I'm in Bethesda and it's been snowing from 10'ish until just past 1 - it's stopped now here at least. There's less than 2 inches on the ground.

Fairfax County checking in. The snow has already stopped. Sun is shining. About an inch or so on the ground.

Sitting here in Children's Nat'l Medical Center in D.C....it has finally STOPPED snowing. Yay! (The snow was making DD16 sad because it's another reminder of Christmas and how she has been stuck here for the past 6 weeks).

Well, I saw the remnants of an accident earlier today, a friend told me (as of a couple hours ago) that BWI flights were not going b/c of frozen conditions and my husband's company volunteered to pay for him to stay an extra night in southern maryland due to road conditions.

YMMV, but it seems it is just yucky. Snow for us started at 9:15 this morning and seems to be lightening up, but we are west of DC.

Interesting! We have had one glimmer of sunshine in Woodbridge. Still very gray and gloomy but no more snow!

My snow keeps starting and stopping. But I guess now it is a snow drizzle. Is that a flurry?:confused3

The sun poked through at one moment, but went back in hiding.

The snow, overall, has been very fine and light. Not those big, fluffy flakes. Flurries are probably even lighter than what we've had all day.

I heard we are supposed to get one more burst later but nothing significant.

DD16 has been chatting with her on Facebook from time to time. Big hugs to her! So sorry she has had such a rough time. :grouphug:

DH is on the way to DCA now from Springfield (typical Army, the meetings ran an hour later than scheduled). The 3 flights before his have all been cancelled but so far his is just showing a 70 minute delay. Waiting to see if he gets out of there tonight.

Everyone up there stay warm and safe! It just makes us homesick for Maryland to hear about all the snow.

My husband left work in DC around 2:00pm and still isn't home. He's fine, just stuck in traffic (because the minute a flurry fell from the sky, people starting getting stupid). The ride that normally takes an hour is over 2.5 now.

At least he's carpooling and someone else is driving.
