Anyone going to the inaguration festivities on Sunday? Looks like a great line up of artists. I'm thinking about it but then I remember how cold it is going to be. Anyone going?

We're thinking about it. We live downtown, so it wouldn't be a big deal for us to get there. My wife hates the cold, however, so the chances we actually go are slim.

quickslvr, do you get Tuesday off? If I lived a county closer it would have been a holiday for me. Dangit!

PM, you could do a good deed and see a good concert all in one shot.

Maybe I'll look into Under Armor and think about going more seriously.

I'm thinking about going(live in Silver Spring/Wheaton) and could take metro however I'll probably end up watching on HBO.....on the other hand I will be getting up early on Tuesday to get down to the Mall by 5 am because I'm one of a few thousand volunteers that got chosen to hang out and assist the people attending the Inauguration without tickets....my first Inauguration that I'll actually be at....even if I have to catch the swearing-in on one of the Jumbotrons.

Yes, we get Tuesday off, but since I'm a lawyer with a filing deadline at the end of this month, I will be working anyway (albeit from home).

My husband works in the DC area and lives in Crystal City. He is coming home to SC, doesn't want to be anywhere near DC when the mass of humanity hits! He says it will be crowded like no one has ever seen, way more people than they have ever had for an inauguration before.

If my kids go to the Inauguration (which we're not) they would be excused from school. I really only know of a handful of people from around here who are going.

I wouldn't go to the concert. DH works for MPD and has responsibility for any of the non-federally controlled land in that area. He has been working with Park Police and they (both departments) are concerned about a crush incident at the concert given the sheer number of people and lack of tickets (everyone gets in.) It sounds like a good line-up to me, but not worth the crowd and risk. Oh well!

Not Sunday, but if I'm feeling well on Tuesday I told DD15 (homeschooled) that we'd go to the inauguration. I'm hoarding an Imitrex shot for that day. DS17 (not homeschooled) could get an excused absence, although he hates to miss school. But it's a historic event!

Heck no! My DH has the day off (works at the Pentagon) at my boys have the day off from school. I hit the commissary at Ft. Meyer yesterday and I have zero intention of leaving the house until this is all over ;) .

We usually go out to eat on the weekends but I think it will be busy here even though we are 45 mintues away. I guess I'll have to cook dinner.

I never thought of being crushed by the crowd. If I do go I won't bring DD even though I was planning on it previously. Heck, I probably won't go anyway. But Bono, Bruce, etc....free!?!?!?!

Not a DC Diser but my 17yodd is leaving by bus with her high school on Sat.!!!!:yay:

We are living thru her.;)

I'll be at Universal & WDW instead of DC. No way do I want to be anywhere near the kinds of crowds they are expecting, even as far out as Annapolis [my neck of the woods].

Side note: I fear that traffic/streets will still be a mess on Wednesday (especially with bars extending "last call" to what - 5 or 6 am??), so be careful out there when returning to work.

Nope. We'll be sitting in our house in Alexandria all weekend. DH and I both have Mon. and Tues. off.

IMO, DC is evil on a regular day!

Won't even be in the area. We're taking advantage of the super long weekend to go see family we missed at Christmas.

Eeek! You think it'll be bad even here in Annapolis area?? I was wondering about that.... I hope not.

I do think it will be fairly crowded b/c the Annapolis hotels have been advertising Inauguration specials, restuarants in those hotels are holding special 1/20/09 brunches with Jumbo-trons of the celebration in DC, and they are running special commuter bus service to & from the New Carrollton metro and the Annapolis Park & Ride starting at some ungodly hour like 4 am.
