We are planning to spend a day on the East Coast during our next trip (as well as a day at the Gulf Coast).

We are thinking of either Daytona or Cocoa Beach. Any opinions on which is the best gratefully accepted, or any other alternatives.

We had a very brief stop at Daytona on a not particularly nice day and didn't like the beach (could have just been the spot we stopped at).

Cocoa Beach was lovely though.

Hi,

On every holiday we always spend at least two full days at Cocoa Beach and love it there. The beach is lovely and there is no one within 50/100 feet of you either way on the sand. There is always the bonus of being able to go in to Ron Jon's 24 hour surf shop ( although there is finally one being built in Orlando now). Also you can combine Cocoa Beach with a trip to Kennedy Space centre.I haven't been to Daytona as I didn't like the sound of cars being able to be driven on the beach.

Having said that there was a thread a while ago and I was in the minority for liking Cocoa Beach.I don't understand why:confused:

Cocoa Beach in my opinion is a beautiful beach. Because tourists don't know a lot about it, it's always very quiet and peaceful.

Bonzo here - we have more cookies than Tesco's biscuit aisle!

It was a while ago but we found that Cocoa beach was made up of small shells - very painful on the old feet, and the only shop of mention for miles around was Ron Jon's.

Daytona on the other hand was wonderful, especially as you could actually drive and park on the beach. There's no danger as the beach is sooo wide.

Just remember that both beaches are on the East Coast i.e. The Atlantic Ocean - not the smoothest or warmest of seas ever! - brace yourself for massive rollers.

Like I say - all notes are JIMHO.

Hi

We have been to both - and both are great for their own individuality :D - it really depends on what you expect.

Daytona is fab for Surfing, and if you like people watching and such, then it is a lot of fun. We spent a few hours just whiling the day away, watching the posers go up and down the beach in all manner of vehicles. Lots of scantily dressed young people though - if you've kiddies, it may not be for you?

Cocoa beach as I recall is white (ish) sand and quite soft - as opposed to the compacted beach at Daytona. We had a typical beach day here, sunbathing and swimming. As Shaun says though - very cold water!!!

We actually saw the police remove some people from the beach because they were drinking alcohol (Budweisers) - they were British and kicked up a bit of a fuss! You also are not supposed to undress on the beach - there are beach huts and changing rooms for such purposes? :D :D :D :D

Hi we are thinking about a day at coco beach - could you tell me more about the changing huts - do you have to pay for the whole day or just while you are changing. Are there places to eat by the beach etc.? Thanks for the help.

That depends on the state of the tide. The beach is quite narrow at high tide with only the very soft sand above high tide mark to park on and sink into.
