we will be driving home from DW on July 1 and will be coming up I-95 through Daytona. I know the Nextel Cup Nacar race is that evening. Anyone have an idea to the traffic through that area on that day?

Think bad... I was once working in that area the week before the race. Each day traffic got worse and worse, by Friday it was horrible, I can't imagine what it would be like on race day...

Was thinking about going home on I-75 to avoid the traffick, but noticed there is a lot of construction that way. :sad2:

It would probably still be better to go I-75.

The other thing that REALLY backs up on race day are the tolls in Orlando. I was once trying to get to the airport on a Daytona Race Day and there were 30 mintues wiat at the tolls.

If the traffic is anything like the Daytona 500 race week, bad is an understatement!

Backups on the friday before were up to the Flaggler county line on 95 south (thats way over 10 miles) When I finally got to LPGA Blvd, I got off and took LPGA Blvd to US92 which then goes to I4. That way looked pretty good in both directions so you may think of going that way coming from Orlando if traffic on I4 is backed up..

Strangely, I drove 95 coming from WDW to Ormond Beach last year the evening of the Nextel Cup without knowing beforehand, and only knew something was going on because the track was all lit up - it was *during* the race, though, so traffic was not yet an issue. Can you time your departure to hit Daytona while the race is going on?

That is what I am thinking about doing is delaying my departure to hit Daytona during race. May just not drive as far the first night because we ususually take 2 days to get home anyway.

Thats the way to do it with NASCAR races...from just after the beginning of the race to the end of the race, traffic around the race tracks is smooth and that applies to Daytona as well. If you time it so you pass the track area during the race, then you should have no problem with traffic.
