We are planning on spending a afternoon at Daytona Beach with DH, DS 15 ,DD 12. Is it a nice beach, nice area or would you suggest going to cocoa beach or Melbourne???

Thanks

Either area has very nice beaches, but for more in the way of entertainment (and unless you want to visit Kennedy Space Center) you may want to head to Daytona Beach. You'll find the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, a Riverfront Marketplace, lots of dining and shopping options, and if you want to spend part of your day educating the family, the Marine Science Center is nearby (closed Mondays), and it's practically free!

I like the beach at Daytona a lot better than cocoa beach but it is further away. In my opinion (for what it's worth) it's worth the extra time to drive to Daytona.

I haven't stayed at the other beaches, but recently I spent a long weekend at Daytona Beach with a bunch of friends and I really loved it there. I'm planning on taking my kids there next month. I think especially for your kids ages, there is plenty to do in DB. the sand is packed but soft, like walking on velvet. You can't drive on the whole beach, just parts of it. We stayed on the driving part last month and drove our rented convertible on the beach, pretty cool! Got to see parasurfers, parasailers, surfers. Lots to do there too.

I agree with everyone else, your kids wouldl probably love the boardwalk area at Daytona Beach.

We like the Ocean Deck Restaurant which is about a block or two South of the pier. They have great seafood and yummy spicy Jamaican wings. It's a fun walk in off the beach type of restaurant downstairs with a nicer air conditioned part upstairs. We saw lots of parents enjoying drinks inside while watching their "too cool to be seen with their parents " teenagers out on the beach, LOL! Have fun!

so what can I all do at Daytona beach?

Do they have boat tours? water sport rentals? what is the shopping like? I've never gone to a beach just to go there, what am I missing out on?
