How flexible is Disney with days off? Is it appropriate to ask for time off and personal days, or could that ruin my chances for future employment?

You have to request days off weeks in advance and even then getting them approved isn't guaranteed. It depends on how many people requested off around the came time as you/ amount of coverage they'll have/etc. You do this through The Hub (they'll explain to you how you exactly go about doing that)

If you know of any days you need off beforehand you can email and request them off but it's not guaranteed but usually they'll accommodate you.

Hope this helps!!

honetly if you need time off it would be best to request it after you get the job. I wouldn't mention needed an extended amount of time off during your interview, they may not like that. They can be flexible with having days off, depending on the season, and you may be able to find someone to take a shift or 2 from you. It's better to get the job, and worry about time off than to not get the job..

I didn't realize I didn't word my answer properly, whoops. I meant to send an email about requesting time off AFTER you are accepted into the program. I agree with the above statement, if you do it before you're accepted that will not reflect well on you.

Disney granting time off varies greatly between the different Lines of Business. My roommate was a lifeguard and she took time off all the time! I was in Entertainment, after getting denied 4 times I stopped trying. Instead I made friends and just traded shifts around.

How many days a week do you typically work? Like do you have any free time to enjoy things?

Disney Internships and Programs Participants are employed on a 5/8 basis - five days per week, 8 hours per day, for a total of 40 hours per week.

While that may be adjusted upward or downward depending on labour needs, it's the base model that is aspired to.

cool, so basically like a full time job type schedule.

It can definitely be lower though. I never saw 40 hours. My usual work week was around 30-34. The extra hours less made a difference.

I was hoping to be around the 32-40 range max because I want to take at least two classes (online) while I'm down there. If I only worked like 35 hours I could probably swing 3.

That was the range that I was in when I worked in DAK. It was higher when I was in MK in 2007.

DAK - I worked 32-40 a week in MK, it was more like 40-45 a week.

I heard on facebook people were emailing recruiting after they were accepted about time off, so I did the same. I got a reply today saying it was approved! And just to keep the email confirmation and show my manager if I have any problems. So, although I don't think you should bother recruiting with every little thing, it might help you get the time off? Mine was during a really slow week in September, so that probably helped.

Good luck!

Could that be attributed to the fact that DAK closes earlier than MK?

Do you know how many courses most people take when they are there. I mean, I want to take a minimum of 2 courses online at my college while I'm there, but I could probably do 3 as long as I'm not working like 50 hour weeks. I've worked full time and done full time (4) classes per semester before, but it's miserable and you will burn out after a few months. I am also concerned that the living situation may make it somewhat difficult to get alone time to concentrate on courses.

Hey I know this question wasn't directed at me but I just wanted to say that I have heard of a few people who say they try to take online classes but get so consumed with working and other things in FL that they can barely get through. So I would take it easy if I were you, and enjoy your time down there. You'll be working enough as it is that you don't want to spend all your free time doing classwork as well! Not to mention during the peak periods where you could be working a LOT more hours...

Definitely! MK, I would start work around 6PM and get off when the park closed. DAK, I would start around 10AM and get off about 6

Ooh which did you prefer working at, hours-wise? On one hand the idea of working in the morning every day isn't that wonderful, but it gives you the rest of the night to go explore elsewhere! But I guess you could say the same for MK, but the other way around. I mean, sometimes MK people could end up working til like 1 in the morning or so, right? Or so I've heard...

Thank you for mentioning e-mailing. I have a family reunion to go to in September that I'd like to be able to, but I was worried about it being too close to the start of the program to be able to request the days off. I just sent an e-mail to recruiting.

what is the email for recruiting? just wanna make sure i have the correct one :3

how likely are they to allow you time off for your birthday/other family events? my bf and I would like to spend a weekend in vegas possibly so i'd like to get the time off now if possible :)

I'm a night person, so I preferred MK. But I liked working mornings in DAK, so that I could spend the evenings in Epcot.
