Daycare teacher gifts?

That’s so awesome. My kids were lucky to be able to stay with their grandparents, too. Spending time with grandparents is so much better than being stuck in day care.

Goodness, the tuition for Kindergarten at that school is more than what it was for a year at the private liberal arts school I went to in Manhattan not too long ago.

This made me chuckle. It's crazy what we'll spend on our kids, right? OTOH, I know the incredible value the kids get out of their current school, so it's trade off. Spanish immersion? Yes, please!

Agreed- I went to a Montessori school for pre-K through 4th grade and it was just the best. I really hope when I have kids I can send them to one as well. I think it really set me up well for life.

I'll echo the others that gift cards are a safe bet. I had a thought that maybe you could ask the teachers if they have any materials they'd like for their classrooms? Some Montessori materials aren't too expensive.

I considered the art supplies after this discussion and then I saw stocked the school was (should be for what we pay!), they are good to go. They had products I didn't even know glittery glue was new to me!

"Stuck"? That's insulting.I've worked in childcare for many years now,and I can tell you that it's no jail term.We give wonderful care to children-and much better than many other caregivers tend to.

I was thinking $25 Target giftcards? Some of my friends suggested amounts I thought were pretty crazy like $100 per teacher.

I agree with you $100 per teacher is CRAZY. If you are comfortable giving $25 then that is what is what you should give. Honestly, I never gave pre-school teachers gifts and only gave elementary a few times.

LOL Insulting? Please. I’ve worked in schools for years. Being with grandparents is wonderful.

Being with SOME grandparents is wonderful for children. Keeping grandchildren is wonderful for SOME grandparents.

Not all grandparents are the loving, doting replacements for parents. And not all have the ability or the health to keep up with little ones every day.

Quality child care can be wonderful too

TY! I'm trying my hardest and certainly I'm not perfect, but I do just want them to be happy, healthy little kids who grow into happy, healthy adults. I didn't know I could love them, or my DH, so much. I think I may have gotten it right this time.

I no longer have children but have adults (or at least that is what a friend tells me) and I still wish I had a manual.

When DD was little, she went to pre-school, I went the route of gift cards, 25.00 at Wal-Mart, Target, or Publix which was appreciated by the teachers, lets be honest here, teacher's don't make anywhere near what they deserve... giving them something extra that they can use in their personal life seems better that another picture frame, or ornament, or something that will go home with them and sit in a box.

Another Montessori student here. I went from Pre-K (just before my 3rd birthday) through 5th grade (and that is only because the school ended at 5th grade). As a teacher now in public school, there are definitely Montessori principles I would love to use, but you do have to be somewhat of a self-starter to be successful in Montessori and many of my students are not.

Might I suggest that here is where the saying -- location, location, location comes into play? New Jersey is a bit different cost of living from Metro Detroit and Nashville, wouldn't you say?
