Day 2 – Saturday, April 30th

The wakeup call came around 6:45 am. We wanted to get packed up and checked out fast so we could check-in at the Poly early. We called for the bell services to come and get our luggage only to have a HUGE surprise. The bellman offered to have our bags transferred to the Poly for us!!! (HOORAY!!!) This was awesome because we had so much stuff… probably like 9 items at least… and I was sure they wouldn’t transfer to a Disney resort, has anyone else had this happen? Too cool!

So anyway, we left the Swan and headed to the Poly to check-in. Once we got there we checked in, got all our My Way package stuff, meal plan, tickets, leis, etc, and everything went smoothly. Of course our room wasn’t ready yet, it was like 8:00 am, so we headed off for our early morning PS at Crystal Palace for breakfast with Pooh and Friends. As we arrived at MK we noticed the huge crowd waiting for rope drop, so we were happy to bypass all of that and go right in for our priority seating. The first thing we were dying to see was the new castle. It was sort of shocking at first, even though we had seen pictures online, but it really was beautiful.

It’s great to get into MK early and be able to take pictures on Main Street and of the castle without the huge crowd of people pushing in. I highly recommend a breakfast PS at least one morning of your trip so you can enjoy this time.

We just love the Pooh breakfast. Crystal Palace is such a nice atmosphere and the buffet has tons of options. DH always loves the omelets… and I devoured the deep fried French toast. (YUMMM!!!) We had visits at our table from Tigger, Eeyore, Pooh, and then Piglet came by for the parade.

Piglet came by and grabbed our oldest ds to start off the parade. :)

This was our first meal on the dining plan; we used 4 sit-downs for it. Normally that might not be a great idea, but dh and I knew we’d be gone later in the week for the press event so we didn’t want to get stuck with a bunch of extra meals leftover. In the end we did have some unused anyway.

After breakfast we were all excited to hit the park! The boys were begging to do Stitch’s Great Escape, since it was new since our last visit, so we headed straight to Tomorrowland to get some fast passes. While waiting for our fast pass time we lined up for pictures with Stitch and Buzz Lightyear. Always a hit with our boys!

Love those pictures! After that we took a ride on the TTA and Carousel of Progress with no wait. Both were just as enjoyable as ever.

Then it was finally time for Stitch. The boys were about to bust with excitement! Using fast pass for this was definitely a good idea because the standby line was pretty long that morning. I have to say that after seeing the show I thought it was pretty much the same as Alien Encounter… but the boys loved it. They didn’t seem scared by it at all, and kept begging the rest of the day to go back. Personally, I don’t care if I ever see it again, but that’s just me.

Ok… so after Stitch we did Buzz Lightyear (always a favorite for all of us) and I again got the highest score. (ha ha dh!!!) I don’t remember the exact # but it was over 800,000. Not too shabby.

After we did everything we wanted to do in Tomorrowland, and grabbed some dining plan snacks, we headed over to Toon Town for a visit with Mickey. This was our first spot to experience Photo Pass, which I think is a great idea, but for some reason the pictures taken with my camera just turned out better than our Photo Pass pictures. Not sure why, but we did enjoy seeing all our pictures online when we got home and probably would have ordered some if we wouldn’t have had good pictures with our own camera.

Hey, nice closed eyes for me there! Ha ha As you can see our boys both were desperately in need of haircuts! They had been waiting to have them on Main Street and I couldn’t stand another minute of their mop tops! So we headed straight to the Barbershop. Here are some pictures of the boys going through their transformations. Check out the pic of the barber cutting ds’s hair sneaking in a few squirts across the room at the other barber! They ended up getting in a huge water fight and everyone was soaked! Too funny!!!

As always the trip is not complete without the colored gel and Pixie Dust!

Oh man I just love that one!

By the time that was over it was time for the parade, so we parked ourselves right on the curb in front of City Hall to wait for it. As you can see by this next pic our youngest LOVES those free Mickey stickers. LOL!!

While waiting they had the kids come out and do some hula-hooping.

Then it was finally time for the parade. I won’t bore you with my parade pictures since I’m sure we’ve all seen this parade a million times. I wonder when they’ll change it?

After the parade we took the boat back to the Poly to get our room. We were excited to see what building and view we were going to end up with. And we sure weren’t disappointed! Our room was on the third floor of Samoa, an end room #3610, overlooking the pool and lagoon.

What a great view! We had a perfect view of the EWP and almost Wishes too, but blocked by a couple of trees. This view was even better than the room we had in Fiji a couple of years ago and I would say it’s got to be one of the best garden view rooms at the Poly. There are lagoon view rooms at Poly and GF that don’t have views this nice. We felt pretty lucky to get.

The boys took one look at the pool and decided they were ready to hit it! So dh took them swimming while I unpacked the bags and got everything put away. Since we would be there for 8 nights we completely unpacked every bag and stored away all the suitcases. Our room was in good condition… the only complaint I have is that the TV is very small and too high up for the kids to see. And I can’t stand the automatic fan in the bathroom because the only way you can get it to run while you’re in there is to flap your arms like a chicken! But other than that the room was fine. Two queen beds, a small table with two chairs, a daybed, and a fridge finally came once we called a second time to request it.

After the boys got back from swimming it was time to get ready for dinner. We had a priority seating for the Concourse Steakhouse at the Contemporary, so we decided to take the monorail. We had dined there before a couple of years ago but I have to say the restaurant is nothing like it used to be. It is now a paper napkin, crowded, noisy, kid friendly, Applebee’s type of restaurant. Totally different from what is was before, and the food was very different also. Our steaks were small and dry, the service was poor, and I wouldn’t recommend wasting money to eat there. We used our dining plan but didn’t feel the food was worth the high prices given on the menu. This is when I had a revelation that sometimes on the dining plan it’s better not to just look for the high priced meals, but to look for the QUALITY food. I’d rather use my dining plan for a cheaper meal that tastes good at a restaurant with better service. We definitely won’t be eating there again.

After dinner we were too tired to go anywhere else, so we headed back to the Poly to get a good night’s sleep.

Thanks for such a detailed review!! I love your photos - your boys are so cute.

Looking forward to reading more!

Thanks so much for your post. It's so nice to see your Poly report and hear that it was a positive stay!

Have you made ressies to go back yet?? :smooth:

I really am enjoying your trip reports! Can't wait for the next one.

Erika -

I was planning to get my DS a haircut at the Main Street Barber Shop during our upcoming trip. It will be DS's 3rd birthday while we are there! He saw the pictures of your sons while I was reading you post, and he laughed and called it "crazy hair".

Do I have to make an appointment at the Barber Shop? If not, how long is the wait?

Thanks you so much for your help! I look forward to seeing more pictures and reading your other trip reports.

- Tara

corvair - We requested samoa or fiji with a third floor room. :)

eeyoresmountainpals - Yep, we are already counting down another one! ;)

Tara - The barbershop doesn't take appointments, it's just first come first serve. If you get there early you usually don't have to wait long, this trip we got there late (like around 1:00 or 2:00) and we did have to wait quite a bit. So mornings are better. :)

What a great report and a stunning view! I have great memories of the barber shop from our trip. Did the boys get a lot of attention for it? Please post more, really enjoying it,
Claire

Loved your trip report.

Thanks also for the detailed restaurant review within. I was considering the Concourse for dinner, but may change that now.

You might think of doing a restaurant report over on the restaurant board if it's not too difficult.

Erika,
Your pictures are wonderful. They bring back some memories for me as were at the pool on Sat 4/30 all day. We left the pool around 4:30PM for a 6:20PM PS at Ohana's. What a great restaurant. That was our best meal the whole trip. We had a great view of the castle from Ohana's.

Thanks for your great trip report.

ADP :goodvibes

Great pics, glad to see you made it back! ;) Great trip reports too!

Sounds like you had a great time so far! I was wondering if you could tell me the cost of the Crytal Palace for adults? And what time was your PS? The park will open at 9:00 when we are there. This sounds like a great idea. Thanks for your help!

What happened to your pictures? Waited to show dh your great views from your room and now they aren't showing up!! Did something happen or is it my computer?

Erika's boys are so cute... because they take after their uncle (that would be me!).

Sounds like a great time Erika! Can't wait to read the rest!

I'm glad it's AOL causing the problem and not my computer :rotfl: BTW, how was the air conditioning at the Poly? Is it that stupid motion sensor? And, any idea why fridges aren't in the room? I stayed in CSR in November and they had the fridge in a little cabinet. Kinda bugs me that I have to call for the fridge. Doesn't it mean they are removing the fridges after a guest checks out? :confused3 Thanks! Looking forward to seeing those pictures tomorrow!

Can't wait to check back tomorrow to see your pictures and I am loving your report! Thanks for writing this!!! :flower:
