DAY TWO
Today we met in the lobby at 9:30am and walked around the corner to our amphibious vehicle for our Viking tour. At each crosswalk were reminders to look the correct way for cars.
On each seat there was a Viking helmet to wear. We drove around Dublin and our driver pointed out sites. We ended up near the Liffey River. We stopped to put life jackets on and then drove right into the river.
Once back ashore we were taken to our next stop the immigrant ship Jeanie Johnston. This tour was to take the place of the Dublin Castle tour. This is not a permanent change in the itinerary it was a special circumstance while the Dublin Castle was closed for elections. The ship we visited was a replica of the Jeanie Johnston. This ship is famous for not having a single person die during their voyages to Canada and the US. During the famine in the 1840s thousands of passengers on the immigrant ships died due to the bad conditions on the ships (poor food, poor hygiene, untrained doctors).
Our bus picked us up and drove us to the Guinness Storehouse where we had lunch to start with. The Guinness stew was served with rice, vegetables, potatoes and salad and it was delicious. A tour guide took us through the museum and we stopped at the tasting bar where we were shown how to properly taste some Guinness. I did try it and it just confirmed that I still dont like beer.

There was some free time on your own in the museum and for shopping in the very large Guinness store. Included with the ticket to the museum you can get a free pint of Guinness in the Gravity Bar on the very top floor of the museum. We did go up there to see the 360-degree view of the city.
The bus drove us back to the Westin where we had the option of visiting Trinity College and the Book of Kells exhibit or time on your own. Most of the group opted to see the exhibit. Our guides got our admission tickets and then we were on our own. There were no pictures allowed inside the exhibit. At the end of the exhibit you can visit the long room which houses the Old Library. We were allowed to take pictures with no flash in the library.
Dinner was on our own tonight but we had snacks after lunch and werent hungry for a meal. We had a relaxing night in our hotel room.
