Day Six Ideas for 2016?

Has anyone ever suggested the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway? It's a bit of a drive at roughly two hours one way, but a great way to experience the California desert and Santa Rosa mountains. My husband and I recently stayed several days in Palm Desert and did the tramway and were super impressed. A really neat experience. There are restaurants and hiking up top, the second of which would be a neat contrast to the traveler's Disney days.

Oooh, nice idea ... maybe Indio, Palm Springs, the Palm Springs Tramway & Santa Rosa Mountains?

That makes me think of also - Big Bear area, and maybe Idyllwild?

Great ideas! And check out the Cabazon dinosaurs on the way!

Agree that the Discovery Science Museum (the Cube) is a great place, especially if there also happens to be a good special exhibit. We have been to the original one in Santa Ana many times and just returned last week to check out the Sherlock Holmes exhibit which was really neat.

I think Nancy may have done a segment on the Discovery Cube.

Another nice thing about the Cube in Santa Ana is that it's so close. I think maybe ART even goes over there now? Bus and taxi are probably also other options. We just drive though since we usually have our car with us.

This may have been mentioned in the segment, but The Cube participates in the ASTC Travel Passport program (Reciprocal membership! If you are a member of any of these science museums (has to be 90 miles away from the Cube) you can get in free! Still have to pay for the special exhibits.)

For Phoenix Disers: Arizona Science Center is on the list!

I think you are right that it was mentioned in the segment, but I should have mentioned this too in my post. The ASTC reciprocal membership is how we get in whenever we go. There are a number of great science museums on that list. Just in southern California over the years, we have used the ASTC Travel Passport program to visit The Discovery Cube, the natural history museum in LA, the Reuben H Fleet Science Center and the natural history museum in Balboa Park in San Diego, and the the natural history museum in Santa Barbara.

Warner Bros. expands backlot tour to get bigger share of tourism business

http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...os-backlot-tour-expansion-20150626-story.html

Warner Bros. is about to premiere a major expansion of its backlot tour in a bid to grab a larger share of Los Angeles' lucrative tourism business.

Inspired by the popularity of its Harry Potter studio tour near London, Warner Bros. has invested $13 million to build a new set of interactive attractions and exhibits on its Burbank backlot, culminating a project that began two years ago.

The newly named Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, which debuts July 16, takes consumers behind the scenes of how movies and TV shows are made — from script to screen.

Thank you, everybody, for your inputs. I have a segment coming up, and need to choose what to do next. I always do these adventures before reporting on them, so looking forward to doing research. :tilt:

How do I hear old day 6 segments? Interested in hearing about Reagan Library but I don't see it listed on the podcast thread. Thanks!

I second the Sand Pedro area stuff; I really enjoyed that area. We had a lot more fun on the Lane Victory than the Iowa, btw, and it was much cheaper.

Has the Getty Museum/Villa already been mentioned?

Also, you could do a segment on ocean-related activities in SoCal (kayaking, tidepooling, harbor/sunset cruises, fishing, whale-watching, etc).

Oh, and I've always wondered about being in a studio audience for a show.

Thank you! These are good.

I think for my next one I'm going to do the west facing beaches (Redondo, Manhattan, Hermosa, etc.), Palos Verdes, and San Pedro. I might also talk about things to do/places to eat near LAX airport for those staying there. This might turn into a 2-parter.

I haven't heard of the Lane Victory, so need to research that. I like the idea for things to do like kayaking, tidepooling, and the other activities. I think that would be a best of type of segment.

I MAY have done the Getty, but it's been awhile, and I should do a refresher. I haven't done the Villa yet, and I think that with a visit to Paradise Cove would be nice.

I also want to do one for an excursion to the Channel Islands. I've been wanting to do that for awhile now, and a lot of people don't know about it.

I would love to hear more about the rides at Knotts Berry Farm or the Pirate and Medieval dinner shows up there.

It's been so long since we've talked about Pirates and Medieval Times, that's a great idea. We did do a Knots 101, but may need to do a refresher. I'll have to check to see if Nancy did a report with her girls.

Okay, I hadn't thought of that one - thank you!

The Aquarium was part of my Long Beach suggestion (along with Shoreline Village and the Queen Mary)! I was surprised that LB had not been covered yet -- for some reason I thought that the Aquarium had been done, but I checked your list and didn't see it.

Oh, that's right. :cool2:

Long Beach is next. My next one coming out (next week, I think) covers Hermosa, Manhattan, and Redondo Beaches, Palos Verdes, and San Pedro. :)

I am currently planning a trip to California and loved listening to all those Day 6 adventures! They are really wonderful. I am looking forward to hearing more of them and love the suggestions people have posted.

Thanks for this when we come we stay close to 2 weeks since we drive from MO so we are looking for fun things to do on our non disney days

Hi everyone,

Bumping up for 2016.

Sherry had a good suggestion for Long Beach, and that ended up being two segments, so thank you @Sherry E. :)
I'm going to update the list on the first page on what I've done, and more suggestions are also welcome.
