Day Six Ideas for 2016?

I echo the Getty Museum & Villa.

Also, when travelling in the U.S., I love to visit universities to explore - they often have museums or exhibits that are fantastic - do UCLA or USC (or any others) have any worth visiting?

Also, what about Runyon Canyon or the hike up to the Hollywood sign? I think Nancy mentioned it on the observatory episode, but just sort of in passing.

The Science Cener and Natural History museum are on USC's campus.

This is my first trip that I'm planning now and these are things I looked for info on: Getty Museum, San Diego Zoo vs. San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Cool things in LA (Last Bookstore, Christus Statue of Jesus Christ by Lladro at the LA LDS Temple Visitors Center, Bronson Canyon). I love your idea for mountains and Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. :)

Some of these cross genres but here's what I came up with...

For Disney Fans:
How about Griffith Park....?
Traveltown, Walt's Carolwood Barn and of course the Carousel that inspired Disneyland.
A Summer Concert at the Hollywood Bowl

For Film Fans:
The Warner Bros. studios does a tour, but I've heard it's a little pricey.
Hike To Vasquez Rocks (Various Westerns/Star Trek Episodes)
Malibu Creek State Park (M*A*S*H)

For the Outdoor Minded:
Maybe the out of town guest could see if their favorite baseball team is in town and catch a Dodgers or Angels Game.
Hike to the "Bridge To Nowhere" in Azusa.
Tour The Rose Bowl

More Museums:
LACMA (with the iconic lamp post installation)
Peterson Automotive Museum
Southwest Museum (Griffith Park)
Glendale Museum of Neon Art

For the Holidays:
I've heard the Mission Inn in Riverside is spectacular. Also Griffith Park does a drive through Christmas light installation, and the LA Zoo does a Christmas Installation.
See the Floats for the Rose Parade being decorated in Pasadena

Just For Fun:
San Luis Obispo 101
Hearst Castle

We love Chill at the Queen Mary, however Carnival CL is entering into an agreement with the new owners and it may not be around next year.

I have visited both, but it's been a while since I've been to the Villa. I think it would be a fun segment to do both the Villa & Ghetty Center and compare them, plus include places to eat when out that way.

The Science Center and Natural History museum are on USC's campus.
I didn't realize they were on the campus. I always thought that they were next to USC. Nancy & I talked about the Science Center when we visited the Pompeii Exhibition, and I think we also talked about the Endeavor shuttle, but I do not remember covering the Museum of Natural History. It would be a good one to cover both since they are together.

I like the idea of comparing the San Diego Zoo with the Safari Park. We also have the LA Zoo that might be worth mentioning, too. I like the cool things in LA to check out. And I didn't know that there was a Lladro statue, but I've never been to the LDS Temple (though I've pointed it out several times - beautiful architecture, and that's where the Osmonds went when they were in Los Angeles).

For Disney Fans:
How about Griffith Park....?
Traveltown, Walt's Carolwood Barn and of course the Carousel that inspired Disneyland.
A Summer Concert at the Hollywood Bowl
I may have covered the carousel, but not Traveltown or Walt's Barn. I just gave a list to a friend of mine who is going to Walt's Barn, and gave her a map showing Walt's Barn, carousel, Tam O' Shanter Scottish pub, Walt's house in the Los Feliz area, and his grave as places to visit at once. I've been wanting to go to a summer concert. Sometimes they play Disney tunes, and they have an annual Sound of Music sing-a-long that I've been wanting to go to.

For Film Fans:
The Warner Bros. studios does a tour, but I've heard it's a little pricey.
Hike To Vasquez Rocks (Various Westerns/Star Trek Episodes)
Malibu Creek State Park (M*A*S*H)
Really nice ideas. Nancy and I have been talking about doing a Warner Bros tour (she lives a couple of blocks away), and maybe we'll do it this year.
I haven't been to Vasquez Rocks since my teens when we camped there, but it would be fun to cover, as well as Malibu Creek State Park (never been there).

For the Outdoor Minded:
Maybe the out of town guest could see if their favorite baseball team is in town and catch a Dodgers or Angels Game.
Hike to the "Bridge To Nowhere" in Azusa.
Tour The Rose Bowl
Maybe for the baseball games we can give options how to get to the stadiums, but that may have been covered. I'd have to check. I've been wanting to hike to the Bridge to Nowhere, and maybe can get my son and his girlfriend to go with me. Touring the Rose Bowl would be fun - maybe paired with the Rose Parade (though I believe I covered that a few years ago). It's always good to have updates.

More Museums:
LACMA (with the iconic lamp post installation)
Peterson Automotive Museum
Southwest Museum (Griffith Park)
Glendale Museum of Neon Art
I have a picture of those lamp posts, and was there earlier with some DIS friends and listeners. The Automotive Museum has just been redone, so would be good to cover, as well as the others you mentioned - I always call the Southwest Museum the Gene Autry museum, but it would be fun to visit. Glendale Museum of Neon Art - too bad I can't get Charles Phoenix to go to that with me. :)

For the Holidays:
I've heard the Mission Inn in Riverside is spectacular. Also Griffith Park does a drive through Christmas light installation, and the LA Zoo does a Christmas Installation.
See the Floats for the Rose Parade being decorated in Pasadena
I just went to the Mission Inn a few weeks ago, and it was really nice. We had dinner there, and then stayed to watch them turn on the lights. We also went on the horse carriage ride, and walked around to see the street vendors. They have the oldest dated bell in the world at that Mission Inn - it was a fun evening. The same night we did the Mission Inn, my son and his girlfriend did the LA Zoo light show. I'm not sure if that and Griffith Park is the same show, but would have to check. There is also the walk along Naples to see the Christmas lights on the houses on the canals and the Christmas boat parade. The Rose Parade activities should probably be visited again, especially for opportunities to help decorate the floats and to see them afterwards.

Just For Fun:
San Luis Obispo 101
Hearst Castle
Hmmmm, San Luis Obispo -- I did a combo Santa Barbara/Solvang segment. Is there enough in San Luis Obispo? I do like the idea of Hearst Castle

Thanks for all the input. This is really helpful to sort out what we want to talk about this year.

This thread helped me to find great info. on the Reagan Library: your podcast & blog. So very helpful, as we are planning a visit soon. Just wanted to say thank you and also suggest Forest Lawn Memorial Park for a Day 6 podcast. I just found Nancy's very helpful blog about the topic, but don't think there has been a podcast?

Have you guys done an all water parks show? With great wolf lodge coming maybe a review of all water parks in Southern California would be pretty cool. Love the show, keep up the great work.

I've done a podcast on things to do in LA, but maybe we can do one that is focused on the Griffth Park Carousel, Forest Lawn, Walt's Barn, and Tam O'Shanter, with more detail about Forest Lawn. I'll talk to Nancy (@YellowMickeyPonchos) :)

If I remember correctly, I did a water parks show a few years ago, but I think it would be worth it to review the water parks again, and include the hotels with water play areas. Maybe I can recruit Tom's (@ImTooExcitedToSleep) son, West, to join me and talk about some of these venues. I understand that he is into researching the hotel water play areas these days.
