Is day room at Hyatt after cruise 'worth it' with 4:40 departure? I realize what is 'worth it' to one person might not be to another, but I would love to hear opinions.

Our flight was at 6:20 and we loved having a day room. We had the flexibility to just hang out in the room, watch tv, catch up on our emails and such. We wandered down for lunch in the terminal and shopped for a few last minute souvenirs. We had 3 kids with us, so hanging out all day in the airport just isn't that fun for any of us. I think it really depends on what you'd do during the time. If you want a quiet place to stop and relax, a day room is great for that. If you don't mind wandering the airport and sitting on one of the chairs/benches while you wait for your flight, then you probably don't need one.

That's a hard one for me. 4:40 means we're normally walking into a busy airport at 2:20. If we have bags to check at the airport, and it's MCO, we want to get there even earlier. Disembarking the ship as late as 9am, plus an hour's drive to MCO...that's only 4 hours. If you're taking the disney bus and waiting for the bus to fill and leave, it could even be less than 4 hours.

For me, that's really challenging my "does this expense have value?" sense.

But then again, what ELSE are you going to do? Assuming the day room is still around $99 plus tax, what else could you do that's around the same cost?

It's a hard one, that's for sure.

We got a room for our 1st cruise 3 yrs ago- kids were 2 1/2 and 7 then and room was nice because we were off the ship and at MCO by 9 ish and had many hrs to kill before our 5:30 flight. It was convenient back then because kids were younger and little one still napped in afternoons. They napped, watched a movie, swam and we were able to repack our bags which were a bit of a mess since it was our first cruise with kids. When we went again this year, we opted to rent a car and went to the Orlando science museum until 5:30 flight. The museum was great but didn't open until 10 so we had some time to kill after getting back to Orlando. It is also pretty close to the airport and not too pricey. We were all pretty wiped out by the time we boarded the plane so kids slept most of the flight home.

I have had a day room and also done it without a day room. My thought now is not to book a day room unless our flight is after 6:30 pm. Day room is great, but still another expense. Also, with younger kids a day room seems more of a need. You didn't mention the age of your kids. My daughter has been 6,8 when we cruised. The airport has a lot to do. There is great sit down resteraunts like Chilli's, also fun shops and places to look around. Like the space shop. Also, if you go by the Hyatt and go to the second level they have a beautiful lounge to sit in or straight across the airport has a great sitting area with plugs and clean big bathrooms. We make this place are spot. Which means my hubby hangs there all day and we look around, and then come back to play games. Also, we take our time getting off the boat. We sleep longer, eat the later breakfast time, and then take the late disney bus to the airport. Have fun
