I took a day off for mental health reasons. The 5 minute wait at the McDonald's drivethru was the straw that broke this camel's back.

First my dd26 called me Monday night to tell me that the eye dr. she went to referred her to a specialist as the optic disk behind her retina was swollen with fluid and is the cause of her headaches. The fluid can be either from the brain or from the vertabrae and can be a very serious situation. I'm waiting to hear as she's in Detroit. At least her father can go with her to the dr's even if I can't.

Then, I called my Mother Tuesday am to tell her about dd, and she told me that my aunt's (70) test results were back (she's been falling) and she has metastasized cancer cells in her brain from unknown cancer somewhere else. This explained both her falling and her mood swings. She's developmently behind, though not severely and my mom takes care of her. I decided to wait to tell her about dd - why add anymore worries until I know something.

Honestly, I was ready to get in the car to go to Detroit first then to PA yesterday but ex-dh and mom convinced me to wait until I was really needed which scares me.

Anyway, I guess the delay in getting a parfait at the drive-thru just put me over the edge and I called off work.

Thanks for listening!

:grouphug: Good for you taking the day off- it does sound like there's a lot going on right now and some time away to regroup is a great idea. I hope both your DD and Aunt are ok!

Good for you that you realized you needed a day off. I hope everything works out ok with your daughter and aunt.

My dd's doctor visited turned up two possibilties. Both can be treated though one is more serious than the other. The serious one is called pseudo tumor cerebri and it's what it sounds like - it acts like there's a tumor when there isn't and brain stem fluid presses on the eyes. It's rare and he doesn't think it's that though she'll be having tests to eliminate it. The other is a genetic disease called optic disc drusen - medication should ease the problem. Unfortunately, the tests can't be done until next week as there are only a limited number of people who do them. Still worried but I'm feeling a bit better about it. Ex-dh said they liked the doctor and felt comfortable with his knowledge.

The good news is what I didn't mention in my first post - I was also worried about some medical tests I had done this week and I did find out my tests were fine. No word on my aunt yet.

Sorry for these long-winded posts but I truly appreciate the kind words, sympathy, prayers and pixie dust! Back at you pixiedust:

Thanks for the update!!! If you need to chat PM me!!! You know, it's just a little drive..but I can get up there to see you... even if we just do coffee/ soda pop for me...
I'm glad your ex-dh is keeping you well informed.. some just do not do that...but that is a whole other sidebar...

Keep us posted..and the prayers, pixie dust and well wishes will continue!!!
Are you working today?

Glad to hear your tests came back fine..and remember no news is good news on your Aunt...
 to your DD.. How is she handling everything?? I'm sure she is a wreck...

Oh Vanyel, you and I need to take more mental health days off together!:thumbsup2

All the health issues going on in your life, sound so similiar to ones going on in mine. Why does everything come at once?

Sending more pixie dust, this is pretty New England fall foliage pixie dust. Hang in there kiddo.

You don't, or maybe you do, know how much it means to know you all care.

Lisa - I'd love to have a mental day off with you but you're too far away :) Hope everything is going well with your issues!

PN96 - Come up anytime or we could meet in the middle! And sometimes I end up close to your area. Thanks for the offer! And yes I worked today.

I started answering everyone but DH is fixing supper and it's ready! Thanks everyone!

More :pixiedust: for your DD, Aunt, and YOU!!

Glad you are okay and can now concentrate on your family.

More hugs to you! :grouphug: :grouphug: It's a good sign that they at least have some possible explanations so quickly. But I know the waiting for more info can't be easy.
