DAY FIVE - Ireland ABD Trip Report
Today we left the lovely town of Killarney to head to our last hotel of the trip...Dromoland Castle!! This morning our luggage had to be ready at 7am and we met in the lobby at 8am for our 90 minute ride to Blarney Castle.
You have to walk up very narrow stairs to the top of the castle to reach the Blarney Stone. Not everyone in the group opted to do this. There were gardens to explore on the estate as well.
To kiss the stone you lay down on your back and scoot back, grab the bars above your head and the two workers help lower you a bit to reach the stone. Very awkward but still fun. They take a picture of you that they sell at the bottom of the castle if you want along with other souvenirs.
Next we headed to the small town of Adare and arrived there just after noon. Our guides gave us some tips for lunch. We decide to eat at The Blue Door restaurant that was inside a very cute thatched roof building.
We got some more water and some snacks at the store before we left Adare. It was about another 30 minutes before we reached Dromoland Castle. The day prior we were provided with an activity list and our guides called the castle to set up everyone's requests. Below is the list they handed out.
We've arrived!! Prepare to be pampered.
The staff await our arrival.
Inside they had drinks set up while our guides got our room assignments.
Farley was waiting for us in the hotel's main lobby.
Our hotel room was large and well appointed but not as impressive as the Killarney hotel.
We are at an Irish castle!!
Dinner was at 6:15pm. The junior adventurers had a movie night and the adults (and a few teens) walked just down the path to the Fig Tree Restaurant. This was the first time I was charged for a soda - only water was included apparently. The best part was the chocolate toffee cake. Tomorrow is a day for ourselves to enjoy the castle and it's amenities however we'd like.
