I am a fairly new owner of DVC and have noticed a lot of messages regarding "Day by Day" reservations. What are people referring to? Sorry if the question has already been asked...I haven't been able to find an explanation of the term...

Thanks for the help!!!

At the resorts, you can make a reservation at 11 months prior at your home resort. Day by day is booking each day of your stay at it's 11 month prior mark. Say you were calling for January 1, 2005 - you would call today for that night, then call tomorrow for January 2. It pretty much helps you make sure you get exactly what you want, but it's only necessary for a holiday time (or for a grand villa) to make a reservation day-by-day.

Sometimes for highly desireable ressies at a difficult time to get in a difficult unit to get, it is adviseable to call each day to make the reservation. For example: If you want a GV during holiday time from 12/20-12/31, you would want to start calling on 1/21 to reserve the first day, and then inform MS that you are going to be calling day by day until you get to the 12/31 checkout date.

Thank you all, I guess now that I read the responses it was pretty self-explanatory...my brain must be turning to mush  with all of my time lately dedicated to planning my wedding (26 days and counting)

THANKS :sunny:

This year we need five rooms for a birthday party celebration before Christmas, and if I didn't get standard view at BWV I would have only been able to book 3 nights instead of the 4 we were hoping for, because I was already into borrowed points. I called day by day. Now on the last day of calling, there still would have been standard views available, I asked, so I didn't really HAVE to do it that way, but I didn't want to chance not having the whole vacation.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Are you going to WDW for your honeymoon?

Deemarch...

No Disney honeymoon...I promised my fiance there would be no Disney...he's not quite as obsessed as I am ;)
I'll be lying on the beach :sunny: in Puerto Rico for a week then relaxing in Key West for a week...I can't wait!!! :hyper:

I do have a trip to Disney on the books though, I think I would get the shakes or something if I didn't have a reservation waiting for me at disney! I will be staying at BCV for the first time in July when we visit for the Pepsi 400 at Daytona (Since he drags me to the race, I insist we get a couple of days in a Disney :teeth: )

You picked wonderful vacation spots for your honeymoon!

Congratulations on your wedding!

It has been found that there is a direct correlation between brain mush and marriage. Wait until you've been married for a few year!.;)

I wait listed eight nights for BWV standard view in late May including 2 nights during Memorial Day weekend. Supposedly standard view is hard to get.

I called several days after the 7 month window (yes, 7 month -- not 11) opened for the last night and received confirmation for the whole reservation about 6 weeks later. Ie. I did not do a "day by day."

I think you stand a very good chance of getting your desired reservation without "day by day." Especially at the 11 month window.

after Thanksgiving until around Dec 18 - if you want to stay at WDW then day by day is the best way.

for Standard views at BWV it is necessary - then VWL - then BCV & preferred views at BWV- if you don't mind OKW then you can probably wait.

And at OKW, you will need a day by day for a GV during October, December, spring break and summer. You also might need it those times for some other ressies too at the 7 month mark.
