What is the process like for doing day-by-day booking at the 11-month window? Is each day a seperate reservation or do you simply add a day to your existing reservation each time?

Thanks

When you call for the first night, you tell the CM that you plan to add to the reservation each day. The CM will ask you for your intended "final" check out day and make a note of it on the reservation. The confirmation letter will be held until you have added the last night. Each day when you call, you tell the CM that you want to add the next night to your reservation.

When it's all done, you will get the confirmation letter - it will have one confirmation number and appear to the resort as one continuous reservation.

It's really quite easy - I do it all the time at 11 months to get a standard view room at the BWV for early December.

FWIW, day by day booking at 11 months is only necessary for a few unit types & a few times of the year at the smaller resorts. For example, I only made one call to book my standard view room at the BWV for my May stay - no need to day by day for that even though I wanted a standard view unit.

Many members call day by day at 7 months, though. Since DVC continues to grow, there is lots of competition at the 7 month mark to get into the smaller resorts or "specialty" unit types.

Thanks for the quick responses. We are making our first DVC reservations next week for a trip for my entire family. My brother went with us New Year's. It will be the first trip for my mom, dad, both sisters, and BIL. So we want to make sure everything is just right, not leaving anything to chance.

Thanks!

I have done the day-by-day before and have been very lucky
getting my dates and places.

We want to go to Hilton Head next -----end of June or in July 2008.
Since we do not own there --- what are the odds of getting a Sunday - Thursday at the 7 month window ( one or two bedrooms ) ?

Thanks. :cool1:

We booked day by day at the 7-month window and booked HH (2-bedroom) starting July 29. A couple days I did not call until the pm, and the rooms were already gone, but the waitlist came through within a couple months. I suggest you call at 9:00 am daily.

I am puzzled by the discussion of day by day booking. We are interested in buying a Grand Villa at OKW but here it seems like you are saying that to make reservations you can't just call once and say give us this week but rather you have to call day after day to reserve each day separately. Or are you talking about a different set of circumstances?

Yes, you can just call and reserve your whole trip at once. However, the earliest you can call is 11 months before the day you check out. So if your plan is to arrive on July 4, 2008 and leave on July 11th 2008, you could first call on August 11th 2007.

Now, before August 11th 2007, nobody can book for the night of July 10th 2008. So when you call on August 11th 2007, that will be the absolute earliest rooms can be booked, and it's very unlikely that all rooms will be sold out for the night of July 10th 2008.

However, people will have been able to book for the night of July 4 2008 since August 5 2007. Now, most of the time, the rooms you want won't sell out between August 5 2007, and August 11 2007. But if you are booking for a very popular time and want to be as sure as possible of getting your room, it makes sense to book day-to-day. Instead of waiting until August 11 2007 to book the whole trip, you book the first night of your vacation on August 5 2007, the second night of your vacation on August 6 2007, etc.

Remember, booking day to day isn't mandatory. It's only for the toughest to get reservations when you want to call at the absolute earliest possible moment.

Hope this makes sense.

So if I have a June user year, then I have to wait until August to start booking say for 12-1 of 2008? And does the fact that your user year and month are not in the same month that you wish to book in put you at a disadvantage? Also if you are trying to book a Grand Villa at your home resort what are your chances? I understand they are very popular and must be in demand quite a lot.

I just did a day by day reservation last month, and as others have stated you just make sure MS knows that you will be adding on until your reservation is complete. We got want we wanted and now the wait is killing me!! lol :lmao:

UY does not come into the equation as far as 11/7 booking is concerned.

If you owned at a resort and wanted to make a reservation for the night of 12-1 of 2008, then you could call on January 2, 2008 to book it 11 months ahead of time.

All points use is based on date of stay, not when you make the reservation. If you have a June use year and want to book December 2008, the stay would be in your 2008 year and 2008 points would be considered current year. You could also used banked 2007 and borrowed 2009. All when the 11 month window opens for your home resort.

Basically... you can make a reservation 11 months (or 7 months for non owned resort) from the check-out date.

If you are trying for a peak time and wait until 11 months from the last day of your intended stay you may likely find no availability. So... most people will call D-B-D (as soon as MS opens) to increase their chances.

This process works to be somewhat of an availability equalizer between members who hold a large chache of points and those who hold a small cache of points.

:)

What are the chances of getting Vero Beach for the July 6th thru the 11th at the seven month mark???

I wish I could find someone to do a transfer with for these dates then....

What happens if you have a trip booked and you need to cancel it?? It is over nine months out waht happens to those points?????

In your opinion, do you think I need to book day by day if I'm booking at my home resort (BCV) for August,2008, if I want a dedicated 2-BR, 2-queens in the second bedroom. I'm planning on booking Sept.,2007 which would be my 11 month period.

Do know that you cannot "buy a Grand Villa." Your purchase is not tied to a unit size, type, location or time interval (season/week).

There are a limited number of Grand Villa units. All DVC owners at OKW have an equal shot for Grand Villa reservations at the 11 month window -- and all DVC owners from resorts other than OKW have an equal shot at the 7 month reservation window.

I would do day by day for that - even in August. There aren't very many 2B w 2Q and it seems that many members prefer them over the other types of 2B units.

To me, the few extra minutes this takes is worth not having to stress over not getting it or having to use the waitlist.

I wouldn't call day by day for August if either type of dedicated 2B would be OK.

Good luck!

I'm still learning the ropes, this will be my first reservation since purchasing my points.
