Dates of trip: Tuesday December 5th to Friday December 15th

Today we were back on commando mode and ready to attack the parks.

This was going to be a long day and since I did not want to spend it with a whining child or husband I ditched them and spent the day by myself. Only kidding! What I did instead was plan to sleep relatively late and start the day with a good breakfast. We made 9:30am PS for Spoodles. It was a delicious buffet breakfast – I would go there again and would recommend it to others. Just some of the food offered included: breakfast pizza, frittatas with and without meat, a great bread pudding, rolled veggie sandwich, scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, lox, bagels, biscuits, gravy, waffles, potatoes, breads, jam and Danish.

After stuffing ourselves, we waddled into Epcot through the international gateway. We hit the Imagination pavilion first but skipped Honey I shrunk the audience, since we think Sophie will be afraid of it. Then we visit the land – which Sophie loved – the things growing in the gardens of the Living with the Land ride fascinated her. After that we hit the Living Seas, which Sophie again loved. We went into the West side of Innoventions and then onto Spaceship Earth. Spaceship Earth proved to be one of Sophie’s favorite rides. She could have gone on it again and again.

Then we headed towards the World Showcase. Since there was only so much our feet could handle we caught the boat and disembarked by Morocco. We were a little bit early, but we wanted to get a good spot for Tapestry of Nations, which we had never seen before. Ah – whom am I kidding? I’m the only person in my group who cared where we were at any given moment! I knew that Morocco was one of those places where the parade would begin and end so that’s where I wanted to be. The CM working at Morocco told us a good place to stand for the parade so we took our places. While we were waiting I went into a gift shop and bought Sophie a passport. Eric doubted the info I had been given about where to stand, but when the parade started it was a great spot to be! The CMs and puppets had great interaction with Sophie and we got some wonderful photos and video. As I have said in previous posts Sophie is a very outgoing child (so much so that it scares me sometimes.) This time I overheard a wonderful comment about her. At the end of the parade when the one parade was exiting through the gates a puppet stopped and “embraced” Sophie and another girl who had been sitting next to us with her grandparents. I was standing a slight distance away shooting video and I heard a women point the girls out to her husband commenting on how sweet they were with the puppet. It brought tears to my eyes to hear that.

After the parade broke up we started to hit the countries. This was quite a different trip from my previous adult only Disney trips. We spent much less time exploring the countries since we wanted to avoid Sophie getting bored. We hit the kidcot stations and got stamps in Sophie’s passport. The first country was Morocco then we were on to France and the UK. It began to rain, so we put on the ponchos I had purchased before the trip and continued with our travels. We went inside the Millennium Village and toured parts of it including Scotland and Israel. Sophie liked walking through the seasonal egg orbs and feeling the different temperatures. Since we had Priority Seating for dinner at Le Cellier, we didn’t have a lot of time to spend in the Millennium Village and I would have like to devote more time to it. Finally we headed back into the rain to go to Le Cellier. I was quite happy that we had made PS for this one because it was full up and the CM at the door was turning people away. I’m sure this was partially due to the rain causing people to seek indoor meal plans.

After a brief wait we were called inside the restaurant and given a table near the fireplace. I already knew one thing that I wanted to eat: the cheddar cheese soup. I had read so much about it on the boards that I couldn’t wait to try it (and the bread sticks.) I started with that and quickly had a partner (Sophie) sharing my bowl. Eric had the Caesar salad, which he said could have used more dressing. Sophie had the grilled cheese sandwich. For a main course Eric had the porterhouse with Hollandaise sauce. I have the Salmon Pinwheel with Maple Glaze. Both meals were excellent. For dessert we ordered the Millennium ball filled with Mousse. It was not as good as I expected although it did look spectacular (and the chocolate outside was good!) Sophie (who takes after her mother in this respect) was seeking dessert too. We asked the waitress if she could get a dish of ice cream and it arrived with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a cherry on top – and the waitress didn’t charge us for it!

Following a yummy dinner we were rather tired so instead of walking around we decided to stake out a good spot for Illuminations. The rain had stopped so we walked to the bridge (which I had read about being a good viewing point.) Perhaps we were a bit early – lol- we staked out the spot at 8pm for the 9:30 show. The rain fell intermittently, but not enough to bother us. We spread our ponchos on the ground at the bridge railing and sat down. Sophie got comfortable in the stroller (which I am ever grateful that I brought with us! Normally she would never ride in a stroller, but it was a lifesaver on long walking days.) She got so comfortable that she fell asleep! Eventually other people joined us on the bridge, including a very nice man who goes to Epcot almost every week. The Rose and Crown is his local pub! He had a friend visiting him so they joined us so his friend could see Illuminations for the first time. We watched the show, which was wonderful and then went back to the ASSH for the night.

Still to come: Day 8 More touring, more food. What could be bad?
