Cast of Adventurers
Me: Shelly Disney Nut and wanting to go back to WDW for 12 plus years.
DH: Warren Converted Disney Nut
DS: Brandon, Age 7 Being raised right (a Disney Nut)
We were up and at em on schedule but I think our plan of doing Animal Kingdom, going back to the hotel for a rest and then hitting E-night was less than original. We hit a large number of crowds and it hurts when they hit back. Well we made a beeline for the Safari, us and everyone else. We decided to grab a fast pass. That done we back tracked to Bug's Life. Out of all the 3-D movies we saw, this was my favorite. I loved the stink bug, the bee and how the bugs exited the theater. It was great!
We then hopped on Kali River Rapids and I must say I was disappointed. I expect Disney to do things better than our local amusement park. The raft river ride at our local amusement park is longer and has theming that is as good. So we slogged off that and headed over to the Safari. This was a great ride. Nothing I've ever been on compares to it. If I ever get good enough health I would love to go on a Safari. OK Mr Warren I hear you snickering over there. He's laughing because my idea of roughing it is a Motel 6 so maybe this is as close to a Safari as I will ever get but boy is it worth the price of admission.
We then crossed back over again to Dinoland to ride Dinosaur. There was zero wait for this ride even that late in the day. We rode in a car that only contained one other person besides our family. I thought it was good but you can't help comparing it to the Indy ride at Disneyland and there is just no comparison. While we were buying our picture, we had another mini-outburst by our sweet child. We responded with what we had done this entire trip. "Do you want to go back to the hotel room?" He of course would say no and we would then say "Knock it off" and he would lower it just enough to stay under the radar but not enough to actually be what we would call well behaved. Now Warren and I know better than to parent this way but the temptation to stay in the parks was so strong we couldn't resist. We would learn the hard way tomorrow just what a lousy thing we were doing with such poor follow through. Oh well live and learn.
The temperatures were starting to skyrocket and believe the guidebooks that warn the Animal Kingdom has enough foliage to block any breeze but not enough to provide any shade. Also since just about everything is outside you don't get a break. We decided to let Brandon run around the Dinoland playground so Warren trooped after him and I treated myself to a frozen lemonade. I spent the rest of vacation trying to find stands that would sell to my new addiction. They seemed so illusive and the concoction so wonderful that I wondered if there was more in there than just lemonade. I felt like I was some kind of junky trying to get my fix.
After that we had one of the best land meals of the trip. We were lost and wandering around and stumbled onto Tusker House. The special of the day was a salmon filet with fresh green beans and a rice pilaf. It was incredible and reasonably priced for Disney. In fact if we would have had the same plate served with real utensils, seated at a table covered with a cloth and brought to our table by a server we probably would have paid double and still thought we were getting a bargain. Brandon had a PB&J sandwich served on the most unique blue and purple bread. You would have to see it to believe it. In fact I strongly recommend anyone go there to eat.
For desert we sat in the hot sun, eating ice cream bars and waited for Tarzan Rocks. Brandon is not the neatest eater under the best of circumstances and I can assure you that this was not the best of circumstances. He was covered in cream but luckily some kind soul took pity on our family and gave us some handiwipes. Bless you where ever you are. Tarzan Rocks was good but I won't die if I don't ever get to see it again. Now don't stone me but I sort feel the same about Festival of the Lion King. It was good but not a don't miss on my next list. Who knows maybe it was the heat speaking.
We were thinking that we would head back to the hotel for a rest and maybe a swim. Unfortunately the rain clouds gathered just as our feet set down on Dixie Landings soil. The pool was out but gratefully the much needed rest was not. We started to worry if E-night would be canceled. Nope, it was all a go.
Just as we arrived at the Magic Kingdom the heavens broke forth with a deluge. Yup, it was a southern storm for which they are justly famous. Of course what amazed me were the number of people that huddled under the awnings and in buildings. The streets were empty. I guess they figured we didn't know any better than to get out of the rain. They were right sort of. We didn't realize that the really ferocious part passes and by golly we were there to have fun so we did. We grabbed our wrist bands and trooped down the street laughing. We had a great time although I think the men in white coats were about to be called to take us away.
We headed over to Tomorrowland where we had a nutritious dinner of a giant turkey leg. We wondered how they handled people who were not allowed in for E-nite. We watched as some people tried to get on Astro Orbiter and were politely but firmly turned away. Then our son wanted to ride Astro but it makes both Warren and I sick. So Warren rode up the elevator with him and put him on the ride.
Then we rode Space Mountain twice. I couldn't figure out at first how you got the ECV back up and I was shocked when they said to just ride it up the moving ramp. I always made Brandon stand in front of me. My theory was that if I slipped I did not want to have several hundred pounds of machine crushing my helpless child. I still get the willies when I think about it.
We then rode Buzz Lightyear. And Warren I have to say it, "You suck!" No matter what I did I could not beat the man. I tried and tried. One of these days he just better watch it. I'm going to win, WIN, win. A girl can dream can't she.
We passed on Alien (nightmares for the rest of our lives is NOT my idea of a good time) and for some unfathomable reason also passed on Timekeeper. I guess we just weren't in the mood. Then we darted across and rode Splash Mountain. We got to ride twice without even getting out of our log. We were the only ones in our boat and all my co-workers were asking how we managed to get one all to ourselves. The look on their faces when we explained was priceless.
Then we rode Big Thunder Mountain and back over to Splash Mountain and then back to Big Thunder. We closed out the park by riding Space Mountain about 3 more times. Wow! I love e-night.
Now I tried to talk Warren into setting the alarm for early. I mean we were back by eleven. He didn't want to set the alarm at all. We compromised and set it for about 8. He wasn't bargaining for my internal clock. Gotta love me! G'night dear.
