Insane Disney World crew:
Me- (25)-the planner, tour guide, benevolent boss
Mom- (50ish) classic mother, loves family vacations
Dad- (60ish) recently retired, quite laid back, slight troublemaker (in a good way)
I woke up to Mickey again! Got up, took a shower, and was out to catch the bus at 7:35. Lucky for me, the MK bus was present and loading when I got to the bus stop. I was so happy to be getting to the park on time! Why didnt we use this plan all week? I know what to do next time I go to WDW with less commando style tourists. I entered MK and decided that I would stray from my normal plan of attack which is to go directly for Space Mountain. This day I went to Fantasyland. This day at MK was more or less for my dad because he had not yet been to the MK on this visit (he was at the air museum when my mom and I toured the MK earlier in the week). We did only have a partial day here though, so I felt that we should just hit the attractions that might interest him (my mom and I had already done them all). Of course, being the Disney aficionado that I am, I was more than happy to do everything again. So I decided to do Fantasyland first thing in the morning because the lines were short and my dad would probably not be heartbroken about missing Fantasyland. So I rode Winnie the Pooh, which by the way already had a 10 min line, bizarre. Then I walked right on Snow White, Peter Pan, Small World, and then headed back toward Tomorrowland (Space Mountain was calling my name). On the way to tomorrowland, I rode the teacups. The video footage I took on this ride will be very fun to watch. When I got to tomorrowland (around 9:10) I realized that the MK was going to more crowded than what we had become accustomed to. So, I got a fastpass for Space Mountain because the standby line was already 25 min. long. Then I rode TTA, astro orbiter, and TTA again. I love the TTA. For some reason I just really like the idea of a ride that goes through other rides i.e. Space Mountain, Buzz, Carousel of Progress, Star Traders (this is an attraction?????). When I got off TTA the second time, it was9:50, time to use my fastpass for Space Mountain. I love this ride! When I got out my parents were there. So my dad and I got another fastpass for space mountain and we all went to Alien Encounter. Neat show but there was an obnoxious group of middle school aged boys in our show that acted as though they had more testosterone than they knew what to do with. Both preshows were kinda ruined by them but at least the main show is loud enough that it went over well, despite the early pubescents. Then, we all rode the people mover, er, TTA because my dad hadnt ridden it yet. I was getting to know the CM working this ride. Our fastpass time for Space Mountain was upon us when we got off TTA so my dad and I went. He really enjoyed this ride. He was saying that it was a better ride than he had remembered it being....maybe that it was darker. I must agree. It seems that a lot of people think this is kind of a dated coaster and not all that great. True, it is not a monstrous coaster but the drops come unexpectedly, and the theming is great IMO. Next, we headed for Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain RR. My mom decided to sit both of these out because she had already ridden them and that was enough. The drops in the rides kept her away from another repeat visit. My dad had never ridden Splash Mountain because it wasnt there when he went in 1985 or so. He loved this ride! Apparently he was a big fan of Song of the South and loved the theming. I must agree, the theming of this ride is so much more than what one would expect from just looking at the ride. Excellent attraction! Next, we went to eat lunch in frontierland (the place with the good toppings bar). Good and un-nutritious as always, yum. Thean we headed for Pirates. I know we went on this ride in 1985 because even I remember it, but my dad didnt remember.....which I guess is good because it was a whole new experience. He was really impressed by this ride. Next we went to the Hall of Presidents. Now believe it or not, this was the big event for the day. All of us (but especially my dad) are pretty darn conservative in a political sense. So my mom and I took pictures of my dad standing in front of the building with the banner welcoming George W. Bush. We got in the building and took more pictures of my dad saluting a bust of George W. Bush. After that, my dad happened to see the painting of Bill Clinton (of whom we do not like) and he made some comment along the lines of oh no, they ruined this place with that horrible picture). Then, I got this idea, which I was kind of serious about, kind of not. Let me go ahead and apologize, I hope I dont make too many enemies....sorry to those of you who do not share our political beliefs. I told my dad he should go and stand I front of the painting and give it the bird....just for a second while we take a picture. Again, yes, this idea is distasteful...I apologize. He first said oh that would be funny but this is Disney World and then he thought about it some more and said I going to do it.....just real quick while you take a picture. So he did. My dad the role model. A couple of people saw him do this. One guy came up to him and said I kind of wanted to do the same thing and my dad replies oh yeah, I hate that SOB. Meanwhile, my mom wants to dive through the floor, and I am laughing so hard at my dads rogue behavior that I have tears in my eyes. A couple other guys with flag hats also came up and shook his hand. I am pretty sure that this was the most fun that he had had all week. He has now taken these pictures to hang up in the employee lounge at the air museum in which he volunteers. He is so proud (and we are too).
OK so, to all of you who are still reading.......after the Hall of Presidents, we went to the Haunted Mansion. All 3 of us fit in one Doom Buggy. We all liked the ride a lot. At that point, we went to Epcot to do World Showcase and eat at the Garden Grille before Illuminations. Unfortunately, we didnt have enough time to do all that I/we wanted to at World Showcase but we rode the ride in Mexico, Norway, and saw the impressive American Adventure show. I had never seen the American Adventure show so I was pleased that we fit it in. Garden Grille was wonderful but the idea of having to leave the next day to face reality was starting to creep in a little. I was a little down. But I was still in DW so I wasnt that down. It did kind of depress me to walk out of the Garden Grille into the main Land building at night without any sun streaming in. But, we left the building and headed towards the lake. We got places at the front of the lake (looking out toward the American Adventure). This is my favorite place to watch. Illuminations was spectacular as always and my parents actually got to watch the whole thing this time. Disney is really smart to end every day with these spectacular shows. Everyone leave the park wanting more....and so they return. Well, some do. I do, as often as possible. We left the park amid tons of sparkling lights, neon lights, sparkling sidewalks, a huge lit up dancing water fountain, great music, and a huge lit up Spaceship earth ball. If only it was the first day of our trip instead of our last. I almost cried...but I toughed it out.
