I am a new DVC member. At the VGF now. Hit the day 4 today. I saw the basket next to the door in the hall with towels this morning, but I did not do anything with it. Came back to room this evening and the basket was now gone and nothing in my room but my used towels. Was I supposed to take the basket and then put the old towels in it and put it back in the hall? Just not sure how this is supposed to work, if I screwed up and did not take it, or if they were supposed to actually bring it in the room, or if they were going to change both the linens and towels out. Thanks for the help!!

No, you do nothing. Housekeeping should have come in and replaced towels and toiletries and removed trash. You can call housekeeping (a button on your phone) and tell them you were missed.

Thanks!!! Do they also change out the sheets also?
It depends on how long you are staying. For a stay of 7 nights or less you get trash and towel service on day 4. You get fresh towels, they take out the trash, they replenish soap, shampoo and dish soap if needed. They do not change the bedding or clean the room.

For a stay of more than 7 nights you get a full cleaning on day 4 and trash and towel on day 8. The cycle continues with a full cleaning on day 12, etc if your stay is long enough. With a full cleaning, they make up the bed with fresh linens, clean the room, and do everything they would do for the trash and towel service.

Seems to happen to us often, for some reason room cleaning and cleaning schedules is a challenge for Disney or it might just be poor service.

They should also replenish coffee, creamer, sugar, etc. You can call DVC MS to verify exactly what they're supposed to do. At some resorts. housekeeping will tell you one thing, but DVC will tell you something else. That happened to me once-I called housekeeping because they hadn't replenished shampoo, soap, coffee, etc. and they insisted "On trash and towel day, that's all we're supposed to do-take out your trash and replace your towels." Then I called DVC MS, since this was a change in policy, and they corrected both me and housekeeping.

and I actually DO talk to people at the resort...there have been reports that your calls go to a call center....I spoke to people at both resorts we were just at when I pressed "front desk" on the room phone).

You didn't. Unless someone called you back. They lie and will stand by their lie. Pushing front desk has no routing to the front desk whatsoever. You were talking to you talked to a call center, probably not even in Fl, who is supposed to pretend they are the "front desk" but they are not.

I remember thinking people were wrong, too, when the lady I talked to swore she was at OKW. I asked pretty specific questions about where she was. Got to OKW and asked a manager. They have NO phones that receive such phone calls. Call center answers them.

Same here, after several calls over the years we finally figured out that we were never talking to the front desk. Since then we have learned that if you are really insistent and use the right words, they will transfer you to the front desk.

Did you have your Do Not Disturb sign out by any chance?
Sammie, yes we did have the do not disturb sign out until around 1:30pm. When we left the room I definitely removed the sign and noted the basket with fresh towels right outside the door. The card in the room on the desk for the housekeeper noted that they did normal room servicing until 4:30.

Probably what happened then was when she came the sign was on the door and she forgot to check back. If that happens I always call and let them know I now have the sign off and the room is available.

I think a lot of the room issues (people saying the rooms are shabby or furniture is stained) are a result of so many people renting out their points.
Or owners with little kids that are just dirty. :rolleyes1 I know several couch arms at BWV with certain food stains that just would not come out.

Don't worry, DH does not let my dirty kids anywhere near the VGF couch. He said it was just too nice for the kids to be anywhere near it.

I think you are wrong, and that you believe whatever Disney tells you.:stir:

Wrong about what? I did not just fall off a turnip truck. I have met face to face with a number of resort managers. One even took us on a tour of the hallways of BWV and gave us a better understanding of rooms and views. I have also been able to talk with a "room assigner" and now understand exactly what is involved with room requests and all of that. I really do feel sorry for the CMs at check in at ANY DVC resort that have to deal with DVC members that get hysterical because they did not get the view they wanted. Does not matter that they got the booking category....but because they read about certain rooms on discussion forums they should GET THE ROOM THEY WANTED. And I have seen on these boards how people have bullied CM's until they get what they want....and never have a care about how the person that SHOULD have gotten that room comes up short.

Getting back to OP's original question, this is taken from the member site regarding housekeeping at GFV at four days:
Trash & Towel Service

For stays of 7 or less nights, Trash & Towel Service is provided on day 4, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, vacation points or a combination of both.

With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:

  • Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
  • Provide fresh bathroom linens.
  • Replace bath amenities as needed.
  • Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
  • Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners
**************

However, in my opinion, there should be additional information that should tell people: PLEASE REMOVE YOUR DO NOT DISTURB SIGN IF YOU NEED ROOM SERVICE. I have been told that housekeeping will not knock on your door if the sign is in place (although if it is check out day and close to 11 a.m., they may start a knocking campaign to get your room ready for the next DVC member waiting for their room). I have received messages on the room phone from housekeeping when I have inadvertently left the do not disturb sign on the door; so a call when I return to the room usually rectifies the situation. If it does not, then a visit to the front desk is needed.

Thanks for the explicit info. I am sure they just missed forgot to follow back up after I removed the do not disturb sign. Once I got back to the room late that evening, I did go to the front desk. They definitely offered to have towels, etc delivered to my room at that hour, but as I was only staying an one more day and was ready for bed I did not want to wait around. By the way, after my stay at VGF the family went over to a Universal hotel for a day. We are now at the Treehouse villas. I couldn't wait to get back on Disney property. I will take these little glitches any day over the disinterested staff and mediocre room cleaning.

Again, sorry for getting off track. My daughter had the same thing to say about universal. Trash and towel may be different for the treehouses so you may want to double check. Those look like lots of fun. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Housekeeping is the same schedule for all DVC.

I also believe when you call both housekeeping and maintenance that those calls go to the resort. Front desk.....have to agree, it goes to a call center. Been there too many times where I wait for them too recall information on the resort on their computer.

We just came back from WDW yesterday We stayed in a grand villa. On day 4 of our stay, 2 housekeepers knocked on our door with arm loads of clean towels. They then said here are your towels. Really? It took 2 of them to bring those towels to our room and they expected me to carry all of that? I told them to leave them all on the couch as they didn't act like they wanted to go upstairs and collect the dirty ones. I did. They then asked me to bring them the trash. That's when I said nope, you can take the trash out of the kitchen. The rest of the trash cans had minimal to no trash. They replenished shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/lotion. Nothing else. We had pLenny of supplies since we had our owners locker and we went grocery shopping on day 1 but I wouldn't have hesitated to ask for more paper towels or toilet paper if we needed it.

We sometimes find our fresh towels sitting on the dining table when we return to the room. At SSR I was told by Mousekeeping that often the guests will see the basket sitting outside the door and they will take them in themselves. I have wondered if they wait until the end of their day to do trash & towel hoping that the basket will be missing when they get to the room.

We have done so many split stays of late or long weekends I forget what the norm is on the towels. Are they suppose to hang the new towels or just collect old and leave new somewhere inside?
