JUNE 21 - FRIDAY

We had great plans for today! But the best of plans sometimes need to be changed! Today was to be our beach day! We all got up early, ready to hit the beach before it got too hot and crowded. We got our swimming suits on and I opened the drapes to see what kind of day it was outside. Hmmmm. Probably should have looked out the drapes BEFORE getting our swimming suits on. It was a gentle, but steady rain. It sure was sneaky and quiet because we didn't hear a thing or have a clue it was raining before looking outside. Guess we should have made time to watch a weather report!

We sat around awhile in our swimming suits crossing our fingers it would soon quit. After about half an hour I changed into clothes and everyone else soon followed. By this time it was pouring even harder. We turned on the weather report and the forecast was 100% chance of rain all day! Yesterday would have been a perfect beach day, but we wouldn't have wanted to travel to Keystone and back in this weather either, so it didn't do any good to wish we had changed anything.

Laura had a bowling competition in Orlando on the 27th so we decided to find a bowling alley where she could practice. We found the address of one close by, and the address of another one that said open 24 hrs. in case the first one was closed. We headed out into the rain.

The first bowling alley close to my mom's house appeared to have gone out of business. So we went to the 24 hour place. Just as we got there a bus load of kids pulled up. We went inside and asked about availability of a lane and were told nothing was open because they had school groups booked all day. Sigh. She told us of another place further down the road that we could try.

We found that place and they did have lanes available! Finally we were getting somewhere!

Paul and the kids bowled 3 games and I watched. It was kind of expensive so I didn't bowl to save some money. Here's everybody's scores:

Jeff bowled a 65, 103 and 83.
Laura bowled a 44, 44 and 87.
Paul bowled 95, 130 and 147.

When we left the bowling alley it was . . . RAINING! We had a $25 gift certificate for Bennigans from rewards programs I used to do so we went there for lunch. Everything was really good. With the voucher we only had to pay $7. We even had leftovers to take home for dinner.

Back at mom's house we tried to find a movie we could all go to. It was so hard to find even a movie theater! The one at the mall nearby was closed. We found a theater out by the beach so we went there. The weather was still horrible. Gotta give the weatherman credit, he had that 100% chance of rain down right.

Before the movies started we had a little time so we drove down to the beach. We said we at least had to SEE the ocean. We got out of the car and I took a picture real quick, trying my best to keep the camera from getting ruined! I can only imagine how that picture will look! The wind was blowing, rain blowing all directions! But at least we can say we made it to the beach!!!

Laura and I went to see Lilo & Stitch. It was really crowded because it was opening day. Laura liked it. I had a hard time staying awake through parts and sometimes dozed off.

Jeff and Paul went to see Spiderman. Jeff had seen it before and I guess he slept through parts. Paul liked it a lot.

After the movie we were driving back to my mom's house and for the first time that day the rain was only a drizzle. Jeff said couldn't we please go back to the beach. We were already headed to mom's, which is in the opposite direction of the beach, but I turned the car around and we went back. Being a Florida gal myself, the lure of the beach was pulling me too.

About the time we got there the rain had stopped! We took off our shoes & socks and splashed in the water and had a ball for about 30 minutes! Jeff, of course, ended up being soaked from the waist down so he sat on a Mickey poncho we saved from our trip last year. There was a dead bird floating in the water. That was gross. The waves were quite high. There's nothing quite like the Atlantic Ocean in my opinion. I love it! I was really glad the kids got the chance to have fun at the beach.

We got back to my mom's house, got in our jammies so I could wash everything and prepare to head to Mickey's house tomorrow! Wahoo!!!

Budget for the day:
$28 Bowling (3 games)
$7 Lunch - Bennigans
$18 Movies (Lilo & Stitch & Spiderman)

I hate going to the beach and it rains. Theres nothing you can do but sit and watch it.. well unless you like to bowl. :) I know you are ready for Disney.

We went to Clearwater on June 11. This was our first time to Florida's beaches. I was hoping it wouldn't rain and it didn't.

We had a blast!:D Sorry about the weather for your beach day:(

I'm glad you actually made it to the beach, even though the day wasn't as you had planned. Looking forward to reading about WDW!!!!! Thanks!

Krissy

Sounds like an enjoyable day despite the weather---hey, you ended up going to the beach anyway! :)
